Hi Guys,

I'm looking for the Beocord 9000 MK1 service manual in English, the one in the manuals section is I think in German.

If no one has it can someone talk me through setting the dolby levels... I have a dolby calibration cassette (new) and don't know how to do the adjustments.

Thanks,

Lee

The service manual on site does include an English alignment section for the electronics, but from personal experience be very careful, as the various preset adjustments are very interactive and you can get into serious trouble trying to optimise them. Unless they are wildly out of adjustment, they are best left alone!!

Hi Ron,

Just had a look through the entire MK1 Service manual on here and yes it does have an english section at the begining. But all the relevant sections are in German with no English alternative. The later service manual is all in English but thats no good as that manual covers the later machines.

The reason I want to do some adjustments is pre-recorded dolby tapes sound dull. Azimuth is bang on so I can only assume that the dolby playback levels are set incorrectly.

There are 2 service manuals on site both for the same models.

One is in German and the other is in 3 languages one of which is English.

The English covers all the Electrical alignment requirements necessary for total calibration, but as I said before BE VERY CAREFUL, as they are interactive and very sensitive.

If your problem is purely on playback and you have checked the azimuth alignment of the heads, check that the ppms are deflecting up to the peak value in the loudest passages recorded on the tape.

Lastly, the Europeans in their wisdom chose a different playback equalisation to the Japanese manufacturers  resulting in a slightly better signal to noise ratio on their own recordings but a rather dull sound on playback of recordings made on a Japanese recorder. If you are playing back a tape recorded on a Japanese machine then that could be the reason for your problem.
