I have now installed new surrounds into my penta 2's but the actual display is very hard to read unless you are standing above the speaker and off center. There is a "dial" that can be turned via a small screw driver on the actual circuit board and I assume this is to adjust the contrast on the display. I wanted to see if anybody has ever done this prior to me trying as I don't want to damage the speakers. Also one amp now turns on, green, and display works etc, but there is no output. I have tested a different speaker to make sure it wasn't the actual beolab speaker, which it is not. Any thoughts
Check all connections and reseat them (powerlink etc) and all other switches are set as they should be. Did you remove the speakers to refoam them or did you do them in-situ? I actually have a strange situation with my Pentas that both turn green (attached to a BV5) but only the left speaker plays when we have the source as our sat dish, but, they both play perfectly with music or anything via our Apple TV!
There is a potentiometer to adjust the voltage when measured across Ground and 24TP1 according to the manual, which should be set to 1.9V +/- 0.05V. Was the display OK before you worked on these? If yes, it sounds like you need to go back and have a look as something may not be connected properly. Have the amps been serviced - new caps, resolder joints etc as part of this process?
Others will chip in to help I'm sure.
Dave.
Do the displays have the original (yellow by now) covers, or is there a mk3 darker version placed in front of the display?
Jep. Green LED cover on the old LCD displays looks very, very dark...
