Overheard a discussion with a Dolby guy, that I interprete as that B&O is licensing Dolby Atmos for a soundbar.
Would be awesome, and I think that a Soundbar for Dolby Atmos would be really cool. I have listed to Yamahas soundbar (or rather sound projector) and that blew my mind.
Wonder what B&O could do in this field :)

Dolby Atmos with a soundbar?
How would that work???
Dolby Atmos needs hight channels as well as the usual 5.1/7.1 channels for immersive/objectbased audio.
You can do a lot with DSP - but I doubt, that you could simulate that from a 'one-place-speaker/soundbar'.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

It is a simulated 7.1.2 version - might sound impressive, but is not the 'real deal'.
Despite the high price there surely will be costumers for it.
Just waiting for the Atmos-titles to come, erhm!
If there is anything in this rumour, I might imagine B&O making a 'soundbar-base' with wired and WiSA connections for BL's (and other connections) - to be used in a future tv-cooperation.
Dolby Atmos is licensed for tablets, i.e. Amazon fire tablets have some sort of implementation of it. Soundbar would be for sure interesting, gives new design options for TVs

They use 40 small speakers in the "bar" that project the sound by bouncing in walls and roof.

I remember when the Yamaha thing first came out, an amazing, very sexy piece of tech that works amazingly well, gets closer to a "real" surround setup than you'd believe possible.
works on the same principle as a modern phased array radar, which steers the radar beam by using hundreds of small radar transmitters, by changing the relative phase of the different transmitters you can steer a beam without a moving dish. Sam as the Yamaha steers discrete sound beams.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
Please, don't argue against such a system BEFORE you have listened to it!Try out a Yamaha soundprojector. It is NOT one of those dozens of simple soundbars on the market. You'll be surprised how amazing one box can sound! If B&O licences it from Yamaha it would be great to have the Yamaha technology in a B&O designed case. :-)Yes, Pioneer was the first company and then Yamaha followed.

And, lots of sophisticated digital processing to steer the beams, so it's not priced like a simple soundbar either!
I do have to agree with you though, I was floored when I first heard the Yamaha sound projector at how good it did surround.
BillC:FYI the bluray for San Andreas has Dolby Atmos. Yes it's a mindless movie but looks and sounds great on big screen and good speakers

Amazing how history repeats itself, Hollyweird hasn't had a new idea in years. "San Andreas" is a rehash of an old 70's movie "Earthquake" in Sensurround! Which was the first use of subwoofers in a theater. Back then you'd go into a movie theater showing a Sensurround movie (Earthquake, Roller Coaster-yes it was that idiotic, or Midway) and there was a rack of Cerwin Vega amps in the back, snake sized speaker cables taped to the edge of the floor at the walls running down to some serious subwoofer bins at the front. I mean huge, running all the way across the screen bottom, and about 3 or more feet high and 5 feet deep. Produced so much bass if the theater was a multiplex you couldn't watch a move in the adjacent theaters. I remember trying to watch a drama in the next theater when they were showing "Midway." "Oh, darling, I'm going to BOOOM, BOOOOOOM, RATTLE...but Cathy, I can't live withBOOOM BOOOOM BOOOOM..." Was really annoying.
