I wouldn't add wax. Danish oil is a 'finishing oil' so it's actually a mix of oil and (a little) varnish and as such there is no need to cover it with anything else afterwards (and doing so might cause you issues when you want to re-oil it in the future).

I apply at least three coats, usually more, with at least 24 hours between each coat (apply, wait 15 mins, wipe off excess, wait 24 hours... reapply). The oil soaks into the wood and the varnish forms a thin protective layer on top, so the 24 hours between coats is needed to allow time for the varnish layer to dry (otherwise you'll just wash / wipe it off again when you apply your next coat). Obviously after the first couple of coats there is little or no absorption of oil into the wood, but you are adding another fine layer of varnish (and thus protection).

Kind Regards,

Martin.
