Hi,

I'm not sure how to position the BS Essence MKii. Can it act as a music player that uses the speakers attached to my BV11?

Like a Moment without the tablet? I mainly use my iPad and iPhone to control my BV11 so it can also control the essence.

Thanks

HJ

Yes, you will need both wired to a router or use wifi.

Wired is recommended.

In my case I even bought a cheap netgear switch to ensure stability and throughput of music.

You can use the BeoMusic app to play different sources:

-- your devices iOS downloaded library

...... But I have yet to work out why not all my iTunes tracks are playable :(

-- if you have a DLNA server it will also pick that up

This is what an iOS's device selection screen looks like:

Thanks for your answer.

So if if understand your answer correct, it is possible to use the speakers of the BV11?!

I spoke to my dealer yesterday and he told me i MUST use a Moment for it, the Essence is only for a different room...

I am sure MM will clarifying things better than I can on his Sunday ....

However what I would say is that your dealer is probably saying you have to use the "join" multi-room function to get the music being sourced on the Essence to travel over your wires/ wifi network.

He is correct, however that does not mean they have to be in separate rooms ....

What I am not sure of is whether one must have speakers attached to the Essence before it will work ... I might do that test myself on my Sunday

Hello all,

I'm new to this Website and have been enjoying lots of your ressources here so thank you.

I was just wondering whether anyone had actually given a final answer to this question. I am having the same question as I'm contemplating buying a Moment to replace my Essence MK1 and use BV11's BL17 speakers in an integrated NL solution. At the moment the essence MK1 is useless in my living room as it can't use the BV11-paired BL17.

To be honest, I'd rather stick to the essence or buy a MK2 if it could just share my BV11's speakers. I don't have anything of a crush on the Moment- design wise I mean- although I'm sure it's an acquired taste.

Question is : will I be able to share the BV11 speakers with the essence. My local dealer also assured me the essence can't share the BV11 speakers, it's designed as a stand-alone product.

If you have an Essence (2nd gen) somewhere on your NL, you can share the (joinable) sources on your BV11 - e.g. you can map the (TuneIN)radio to 'Radio' on the BV11 and access it through the source menu or direct via your remote.

However, you can't set the Essence up to use the BV11 speaker/s, as you can with the Moment - you can't initiate the playback of the sources (of the Essence) via the 'wheely' and have the BV start up automatically.

The Essence (2nd gen) is definitely not a standalone product, but it can't integrate directly with a NL/BV the way, that the Moment can.

Thanks a lot for your answer MM.

It's now clearer to me that I'll have to consider the Moment a bit more seriously: I want to be able to stream music to my BV speakers the same way I seamlessly do in the master-slave BV7-BL8000-BS5 set-up.

Would the BV11-BL17-BSmoment be the contemporary incarnation of the latter or am I just trying to reproduce something out-of-date? I may not understand well what B&O now consider a "modern" set-up at all.

Not sure what to do with this essence MK1 though.

Thank you very much for your help!

It is a decision I can't make for you - if you consider adding more NL devices to your setup, you should, however, have an eye on the11/17/Moment combo imo. Try to learn more about how the Moment works, before you buy it. It is not just a replacement for a BS5.

By the way - with the Moment you can also map the sources to the tv and this way start e.g. Radio with the remote from scratch.

I am sure, that you can sell the first gen Essence. There are always people, who want/need a standalone setup. Maybe your dealer will give you an offer (would be the easiest way to 'get rid' of it) ---- but keep the 'wheely' ;-)

I'm actually hoping that at some point in the future a SW update to the Essence (gen 2) will make it have the "full" NL capabilities a la the Moment. I really don't think it'll cannibalize any of the Moment's sales, as they're two very different products. The fact that B&O currently have only one full fledged music system (Moment), and one which is 75% there, seems to be a hole in their product portfolio. Especially since some folks just don't care for the Moment's design, or mood wheel.
