Dear all!

A few weeks ago I finally committed to an old childhood dream and bought a Beosystem 6500 to replace an old Rega Planet turntable that I finally deemed irreparable - not for lack of effort. I don't regret that decision.

I'm childishly ecstatic about this system and have decided to expand it as a link system, but the information online seems to be somewhat confusing. There are some online auctions that I'm very tempted to go for.

One fellow is selling a Beolink Converter along with a pair of Beolink Passives. Here is roughly where my confusion begins. I've read the manual for the Beolink converter and it seems designed to integrate a TV set with a MasterLink system. But can it also be used to integrate the Beomaster?

If I do, will I have to sacrifice the TV/AUX port of the Beomaster? Currently, I've been very happy using the Beomaster as a TV amplifier. Will I now have to put my TV on TAPE 2?

Another question: If I do go for the system with Beolink Passives, one of the link rooms would be my office. The Beolink Passives have Powerlink inputs, as I understand. If I create a hack to let my PC set or clear the power signal, will that allow me to override the Passive's Masterlink and use it as a local PC speaker amplifier?

I assume it's not possible to route audio from my PC the powerlink input of the Passive further into the larger system? I don't know what the use case for that would be but it's neat to know.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

1: so far correct - though I would not call it 'sacrifice', but 'utilize'. As you wrote you still have the Tape2.

2: the PowerLink (input) of the BL passive is for using the unit as an amp only. If you use it as a Link unit is is connected to the main system via MasterLink and drives the passive speakers connected to the speakers R/L outputs. (You'll need the ir-eye as well).

N.B. One way of having a local source in a LinkRoom (in your case a PC) is to have a Beolink Active in the setup as well.

The Active would have the ir-eye and the ML connections, and the Passive would be used as an amp only to drive the passive speakers.

The BL Active has a 'PC' port, that can be used for the local source (is activated with the command 'PC' on the Beo4). You would, however, need a special cable for the pc connection.

Note: the local source is local only!

Hope this helps
