What was wrong ? I have actually seen 2 of these that were "dead", however with a new battery charged externally and then connecting to 5.84/6.00/6.62/6.84 config tool in that order, it actually came to life and had its firmware updated.
It was seen by the computer even though the display was completely black, and that led me to believe it was alive.
So... hopefully yours was totally dead ;)

I agree with Jacob, I have had 3 or 4 which appear totally dead, but with a new battery and a little care they were brought back to life and with the final version of firmware they stayed that way.

Based on your photo, then I agree the screen has a problem. The problem we are talking about gives a total black screen no matter what the user does..
