After spending months buried in my school work, I finally have time to finish putting together the audio systems in my apartment.
I have been sitting on a Beomaster 1600 (1980) for many months that has an off button issue (doesn't work) but I am not looking forward to paying to have it cleaned and repaired. In my endless eBay searching I've run across both a Beomaster 7000 and a Beosystem 7000. My question is, which would be better suited since I will have it hooked up to my iMac? Also, and this is a larger factor, will either of these be okay to use with CX100s and S45s (type 6302)? I am utterly confused when it comes to whether Beovox speakers will work with Powerlink connecters.
Can someone explain the basics? I have searched but not come up with information that is speaking to my baseline knowledge.
Thanks!
Wade
Not sure what you mean with Beosystem 7000. Beosystem 7000 is called when you have all the components like Beomaster which you have now, the Beogram CD player, Beocord cassettedeck, Beogram turntable and last the Master Control panel. Beomaster receiver has both possibilities either to connect passive speakers like you already mentioned Beovox CX100 or S45 or active speakers like Beolabs 3000/6000/8000 etc. Passive has a 2 pin (spade/pin) and Powerlink 8 pin connection on your Beomaster.

These were the two I was looking at. I thought the Beosystem was the whole system but the one was listed as a Beomaster and the other was listed as a Beosystem. Thank you for clarifying about the speaker connections, I was lost with what was and wasn't possible.
Hi Wade,
Now I understand. The AV7000 is a Prologic surround receiver not common here in Europe. I have two though but never used them.
Here some pictures of my systems
And a Beosystem 5500 pimped
Awesome! So now I have a few more questions... what is the difference between the AV 7000 and the BM 7000? Would one be more suited to hooking up to my iMac and Beovox speakers than the other? Also, it looks like the AV 7000 has different speaker plugs...do the Beovox speakers plug into the AV's Powerlink speaker plugs but with fewer pins?
Thanks again, this is super informative!
The AV 7000 is an obsolete dolby suround sound processor and the Beomaster 7000 is a standard AM/FM stereo receiver (tuner+preamplifier+amplifier). It would allow you to hook up your computer to it and will drive passive (Beovox) speakers. But the one in the eBay auction is untested, doesn't come with the necessary remote control, and is being sold by a pawn shop, who undoubtedly know nothing about it.
You should look into a Beomaster 5500 or 5000, which is essentially the same thing, but will be cheaper because they're not as rare. Again, you'll need a compatible remote control for them.
Thanks MediaBob,
I found a few pages with info on the AV 7000 and it looks like I'd need an amp hooked up between the AV 7000 and the Beovox speakers which sort of defeats the purpose for me.
Currently I am running a BM 2400 with CX 50s and S45s in my living room and this would go in my office/bedroom. Both my other BM 2400 and my BM 1600 need repair but I think I'd like to get into an newer BM, but I have to keep it in a reasonable price range. I think the BM 5000 or 5500 would be good options and I'll definitely look into those models.
Hi Leslie, I love your pictures, especially the stand with the White 5500? Is it actually a B&O? I am looking to get a white Beogram 6500 or 7000 and this would be the perfect stand!
