Happy New Year,
After much investigation my MK1 to convert for UK and HDMI seems like a silly decision. However, I love the stand and the soundbar. Does anyone know if I could mount say a larger Samsung UHD 4k smart tv ON the stand and use with the sounder?
I assume the possibility to acquire a later generation MK 7-40 screen only (WITH HDMI etc.) is unlikely at a 'reasonable' price? Sorry to be so persistent about trying to "recycle" the 7-40 but I love the stand, aesthetic and sound!
Best regards,
Ed
It should be possible to weld a WISA mount to the stand.
But you will need a load of cables and stuff to use the speaker. And getting the stand to work will be difficult.
Try to get a mk3 screen instead. The beauty of the package will be gone if you use a Samsung on it.
"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
ok-- wonder where best to post a 'search' for MK3 screen. Any ideas? Cheers,
Just use a hdfury3 and you have a hd tv and hdmi.
Thanks for this-- BUT how to you get sound? The whole goal is to plug an HDMI cable from MacBook pro or similar (Chromecast; apple tv) to get both SOUND and video. I just had a look at the hdfury website and unless I am missing something-- VGA plug for hdfury3 only solves video aspect.
Have you used this successfully? Maybe you could send me a photo please of how you have connected it?
I am going to use this in the UK so ideally can figure out a way to link with Sky as well.
Many thanks for your thoughts and comments,
On my MKII I connected the optical outlet via a "TOSLINK" cable to a "LINDY SPDIF" splitter (converts digital signal to analogue) and then L & R phono cable from this splitter to the AV4 connection on the TV..
Works a charm with both good picture and sound..
we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.
Thanks for your comments.
I seem to have lost the back panel of my MK1. What does the "optical outlet" look like? I have been hunting but dont see one. Kindly advise where I should look.
Thanks,
PS Sure hope this setup can work for me! Thanks
It's the DVI-I socket ... Its located bottom right on "Socket Panel 2" where the surround speaker sockets are located.
Hi again,
Sorry to be 'thick'-- so the I get a 'Toslink" to plug into the DVI and then plug this into a Lindy SPDIF (which has L +R phono) that I can then plug into sound channels for Soundbar? Is this done using RCA type cables? I also found 4 blue "female" ports. My current setup has been wired by BO that I have BL5 and BL3 setup. My plan when I move to the UK is ONLY to use the soundbar as the tv will be in another room from the speakers.
Sorry for the "stupid" questions. It looks like spagetti junction n the back of the 7-40. Any suggestions on what DVB box I should buy for the UK? I can post a photo of the tv cabling I have it that helps. Thanks,
ed
Greetings,
I am going to check if there should be a used MK3 screen anywhere-- it certainly sounds like a much better way to go if I can buy a screen and swap complete and solve all the problems. But I fear finding such a screen won't be easy or at least at a decent price. I have several months until we move to London so any thoughts where to source such a screen-- I am all ears. Thanks again for your input. At least there are some options and I will know hopefully tomorrow if the BO Geneva did an upgrade a few years ago on my Mk1 to make it HD read-- I seem to recall but not sure and will confirm soon. If it has been make HD ready, I will revert. Best wishes, Ed
Hi Mark,
You must be physic! I literally just wrote them an email. But don't know them...
We are moving to Hampstead (returning "home") after 18 years...
Thanks for your offer-- I never realized how helpful such a forum could be.
Best,
