Hi all,

I need a little advice, I want to get rid of my large clunky Samsung TV and replace with a used B&O TV.

The reason being is I am custom building a new furniture system (black walnut)  to compliment the Beomaster 8000 and Beovox 5000 flat panel wall speakers.

I am wanting a 32-38" TV that has a sleek appearance and slim frame. It will be mounted on a corner wall bracket so there is no need for a fancy stand.

We have a terrible broadband signal here, so there is no need for all the fancy smart TV etc extras...it just needs to be HD, I have a separate Humax freesat HD box, separate DVD, so again no need to have it all built in.

I have no idea what so ever about B&O TV's, my hope is that this post will provide me with a few model choices to look at on EBay.

The impotant bit is a slim frame, quality picture and HD...all the fancy other stuff is wasted on me.

As always any help and advise much appreciated,

Martin

Second hand B&O Play V1 would be my choice.

How about a Beovision 8 second hand?

My suggestion with the V1 was a great first B&O TV that you could be using for YEARS, because of the video engine (Beosystem 4), and connectivity possibilities. Remember that the V1 and its contemporaries allow for downloadable IR commands for your STBs and connected devices. With the Beovision 7 and older tvs, you're resigned to consulting your dealer to make updates, which cost $$. As Simonbeo alluded to, the V1 also has speakers built in, and the brains allow you to add more in a myriad of possibilities, among many other functions such as connecting to a NAS, etc.

If you're going to jump into the B&O tv market at the size range you're looking at, consider growing with the TV as the hub, heck if you just want a TV to display things beautifully, then any B&O television would do - but I fear you may end up with buyers remorse if you go for an older set.

Even I'd agree with thatErm..

I've seen 40 inch models go for around £800, although recently a 32 inch model went for a little more. The 8-40 tends to go for a little more again!

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

V1 but that's A LOT of money for a second hand product. How many years are electronics lasting for these days? I know of friends who have Samsung TVs and these TVs are all dead at 5 years old. Does the V1 have a lot of Samsung components in it? Is this why the PLAY range is only guaranteed for 3 years and doesn't have a repair program in place?  Unless you can get something real cheap, second hand TVs are a bad idea in todays electronics industry. All these Chinese components simply aren't made to last. Just be careful.

You might check around with some dealers to see if any have a BeoVision 10. Perhaps even as a floor model. I've seen some great deals on those recently. Some even pop up on eBay.

I would suggest that if you are going for one of those older models that needs the dealer to load the PUC for you that you make a list of more devices than you currently have. For example, have them include generic PUC codes for the major brands of Blu-Ray players, such as Samsung, Panasonic, and Sony. Definitely have them load the PUC codes for the Oppo blu-ray players, Apple TV, and Roku. The PUC can actually hold quite a lot of codes and it's a good idea to try to future-proof it as much as possible.

V1 with wallbracket all the way.

You will enjoy every €$£ spent in it even if it cost more than the rest of the plastic category (but less than BV7/10/11).

I will go for a 40" screen, the minimum to enjoy hd and it as better speakers than 32" model.

And don't listen to PaulW the macsurfer, I'm totally sure a V1 can be repaired after the end of the three years warranty. It's built to last anyway.
