Hi all,

Will this work? I'm wanting to replace my trusty 15-year-old Technic front speakers with a pair of Beolab 8000 Mk1's, and running them from an Onkyo TX-NR929 amp.

The amp has suitable pre-outs so it looks like I'll get sound ok, but I'm concerned about whether I'm going to get maximum effect from the speakers because they don't match with a Beo/tv/sound system.

The BL's will just be used as front speakers along with large twin Technic subs and a biggish centre speaker which were part of Technic's THX system, so I'm not expecting the BL's to carry much of the bass weight... just to balance out the frontal sound and adding good L and R.

I use the system solely for my LG 84" tv for general tv and movies, and we sit about 4.5m / 15ft away from the screen. Volume is usually 40%, we don't have it very loud.

The room size:
5m wide / 16ft
10m long / 33ft
3.2m high / 10.5ft

Adding to the interesting acoustics, the room has floor to ceiling windows all along both long sides, and a zig-zag ceiling. Floor is carpeted and there's quite a bit of furniture to absorb any problems.

It's a big room to fill, but the current speakers have done a good job so far. So I'm wanting the Beolab 8000's for their aesthetics - they are stunning looking speakers compared to the ugly black boxes of the current speakers. And I want the quality sound they give even though I haven't heard any yet, but their reputation is enough.

Will I get the full impact from BL 8000's under these conditions? Or should I consider a pair of Beolab 1's which I have to say will fit the room nicely?

I've done a lot of research here and on other B&O places but so far haven't found a definitive answer for my conditions.

Actually I figured it out, and writing this post probably simplified it for me.

The front speakers don't have much of an impact - my setup actually gets most of its volume from the centre speaker, so the fronts can be low volume.

In fact I went up to them just now and couldn't hear much even though they are balanced acoustically with the other channels.

So I've ordered a BL 8000 Mk2. Can't go much wrong sound-wise and they will look stunning too!
