I have another query regarding my ongoing Masterlink install hopefully someone can give some advice before i spend money on something unnecessary
As mentioned in my tother post I have only a 2 room link setup with a BV6 in my master bedroom and BeoCenter 8500 in my study connected to with passive speakers in socket 1.
I am tempted to add a Beolab 3500 to the bedroom as i have always admired the design and thought it might improve the sound from the Beovision. I wondered how this compares to the speakers currently in the BV6 and whether or not it would be a big enough improvement to justify buying the new speaker.
In addition to this i would like to add passive ceiling speakers to the bathroom as well as a Beolink eye (the Beolink passive amp would be in the loft). I am concerned if the beolink eye should not be used in a bathroom area due to moisture and electrical regulations - has anyone else done this?
Finally, I also have 3x MCL2A's from my old house and enough MCL cable to connect 2 further bedrooms together. As this would be much more cost effective than buying new Beolink passives, ML cable and link eyes for them, am I still able to do this using the speaker 2 outputs of my Beocenter (it is currently linked to the BV6 using a Beolink converter plugged into the tv/aux socket).
Beocenter 8500 / Beolab 4000 / Beosystem 5500 / Beolab 8000 / Beogram 2000 / Beosound 8 / Beovision 6-26 / Beovision MX4000 / Beomaster 1900-1 / Beovox CX50 / Beoplay H4 / Beoplay A1 / Beocom 1401 x2
I can answer the last bit. Yes, MCL and ML can work together in a mixed system without problems. MCL may be the best system to connect to the bathroom, as it will not require separate mains power.
Of course with a mixed system the MCL bits will change volume together, whereas the ML elements will have the added luxury of independent volume control.
For info, this was my mixed system in my last house:
thanks for the reply Guy,
It's great to know that i could use the MCL2A's that I already have. I am definitely considering doing this in the bathroom assuming it is acceptable to install the transceiver/remote eye there.
Has anyone else had any experience with this?
I would think that the transceiver will be fine on a bathroom wall - as long that it doesn't get directly wet. My in-laws had a transceiver directly above their cooker hob, and that was exposed to all manner of moisture, hot steam etc and never stopped working!
If worried, B&O did make a moisture resistant holder for the transceiver but that was recommended for outdoor use. Part number: 7210611, but good luck finding one!
Yeah, the IR eye should be okay in the bathroom. I actually have a BL3500 in my bathroom and haven't experienced any issues with humidity / moisture.
Are you intending to make use of the buttons on the eye or just use it to receive commands from a remote? If the latter then you could even consider installing it in the ceiling which would make wiring it back to the passive much easier...
Martin.
Can't really see how much more value a BL3500 would add to the BV; might add a bit more but if your BV6 has the optional surround sound module it would be quite nicer to splash your money on a pair of speakers connected to the BV6 to get 3.0 surround audio.
I have a Beolink IR-eye in the bathroom and it hasn't been any problem for me; having said that, if you bathroom is really tiny and while taking a shower makes the entire bathroom foggy, well that might be another story. But, in general if the area is try it shouldn't be any problem.
Hi Scott, I also have a mixed mcl and masterlink system in my house which works very reliably and without issue. I think if you are planning to install the IR eye in a bathroom you will be fine - from memory the mcl eyes only run on a very low voltage (7 i think?) and I never had any issues with the one in my old flat that was installed in the bathroom. However I would say that you should check electrical regulations regarding the use of such equipment - my understanding is that you'll be okay if you keep it well out of the "splash zone" but doing anything against regs can have an insurance or resale implication (assuming you don't remove it prior to sale as I did) so might be an idea to check with someone in the know. I'd be surprised if there aren't any electrical installers on beoworld that could advise properly. Sorry if any of that sounds alarming - just wanted to make sure we aren't giving bad advice!
thanks for the advice everyone. I think i will give the Beolab 3500 a miss based on the feedback. Having listened to music on the Beovision for a few days now i think it will be sufficient for the light use it will get. I hadn't thought about adding speakers to the surround module as suggested - that would be a fun idea (maybe not so wife friendly though!)
The en-suite that i would like to use the IR eye in is of a reasonable size so moisture and condensation I don't think would be an issue however the only suitable place to mount the eye (due to full height wall cabinets and tiling) on the wall is quite close to a sink so the regulations may well be an issue. I will do some further investigation but hopefully since it is a very low voltage it will be ok.
