Hi All
I really need your brains here(no Im not a zombie..)
I have gotten hold of an additional Beosystem 4500, and am in the thought process of deciding if I should upgrade it to sw 2.1 (for 2-way support)..
However, I just found an old thread that talks about master/slave setup, and the abillity of the BM4500 to act as slave in one of mu MCL2A link rooms.. So excactly how does this work?
Having searched the net high and low, and looked in the service manual for the BM4500, it only says that option 6 should be used for the BM4500 in the link-room (in the servicemanual it says "for future use, dont use!")
But should I just connect the BM4500 via the speaker 2 sockets to my MCL box ? In my brain this is wrong because the sockets on both BM4500 and BM7000 becomes both in/out sockets, can the systems handle this, or is this handled in the MCL boks ?
But since it will still be possible to use the source from the BM7000 in the linkroom(via LINK+CD on the remote), then the CX100 in my linkroom should still be connected to the MCL box, and since it should also be possible to use the BM4500/CD4500 in the linkroom(via CD on the remote), then the CX100 needs also be connected to the BM4500 somehow..
Therefore I am thinking that I just need to connect the BM4500 to the MCL2A box in the linkroom, just as the BM7000 is connected to that box. its conna be a tight fit with 3 MCL cables in that box(one is passed further on to linkroom 2)
Any ideas / suggestions / knowledge ?
Thank you..

I definately wouldn't try this. The speaker 2 sockets on both pieces of equipment are outputs only, and are 'live' (not muted) all the time that the system is on, hence there would be a conflict within the MCL cable.
Perhaps the answer is to add an MCL2AV instead of the MCL2A in the link room, and then connect the BM4500 via the TAPE or CD socket? This would make some sense because datalink is recognised by each of those sockets.

Thats what I thought, but I simply cannot understand how this audio-slave and audio-master setup is designed to be connected.. On the net there is a lot of places that mentions this master/slave, but nowhere is it descrived how it is physically connected...

I think Beoworld Member 'stefan' had a setup with a MCL slave. I have had a quick search and a couple of people have used a mixed ML/MCL system with such a setup, with mixed results.
Perhaps a 1611 Beolink Converter in each room, and new ML cable between would solve the problem, but that could be a waste of time and money!
I think a trial with an MCL2AV (if you can get one) would be low-risk. I think that the link room Beomaster would have to be in option 0, so that it gets its IR commands from the transceiver connected to the MCL2AV. I am not sure whether you would connect speakers to the MCL2AV or the Beomaster.

BM4500, the early one way master, will work as a "slave" /local source in a Beolink system using a Beolink video MK2 (1615) to TV/AUX plug of your 4500. The ML socket should be connected to the ML system with audiomaster and videomaster.
Pressing RADIO will activate the BM4500 tuner. LINK RADIO will activate the BM4500 AUX/TV socket and the tuner of your audiomaster sending audio to the 4500.
This does unfortunately NOT work with BM7000 as slave (2way) or BC9500 as slave (2way). Both tested.
If you want to use an MCL system, connect the AUX sockets of both BM (4500 - 7000) with a special crosswired Audio Aux Link cable (audio out ->audio in, audio in->audio out). Connect an MCL2a box to your main master (BM7000), set to L.OPT 4 and install the ir receiver in the link (BM4500) room . If you have a Beo5/6 - and I think you have one - program a button with a macro that sends for example CD in link mode and add a command A.AUX in normal mode. Result will be similiar to the first (ML) solution. Now you can add a srcond MCL2A box for your BM4500, set to....ir receiver in main room.....you know what I mean...

I think the service manual talks about A.OPT 2.6, not AOPT 6, (won`t work, as BM4500 only "understands" option 0,1,2)
But there are two "sub-options" for MCL systems: X.5 and X.6 - .5 is for BM4500 as master in the system, .6 BM4500 is used as aslave. This never came to life, afaik.
Just my brain...

I will just forget this, I thought that they had made something cool, but seems as if they never godt it finished.. :)
Thanks
Yes, maybe it sounds more complicated than it actually is, but if you still want to modify your BM4500 to the two version, ask Ulf.
Ulf Kiener in Germany - ulf-kiener.de. He made an Eprom for my AV9000 years ago, that mainly modified the display to DVD, V.TAPE, A.TAPE...
Don`t know if this helps but maybe worth a try . Jeg håber at du snakker tysk...(?)..:)
Is it possible to connect two Beomaster 7000 in a master / slave setup via MCL-AV or the like, and be able to control audio linkroom sources like cd, tape or beogram turntable?
Rendboell
Yes, it is.
Some time ago I have described how to link a BS9000 (audiomaster) with a BS7000 (link). Connected via a special audio aux cable and controled via an MCL2A in L.OPT 4 connected to BS7000. You can do exactly the same with two BS7000.
