is this correct, have looked at many photos on the Internet and never seen one with a dust cover, could it have been specially made or is it original

Homemade.
An original cover (if one existed) would not require the tuning pointer to be at a certain position, it would have covered the pointer
completely and it would have been closed at the ends.
