I got a "new" Beocord 5500 which could Play back but not Rewind or Fast Forward. I have therefore changed the rubber belt (from Dillen so it should be OK Smile ).

After I changed the belt, the machine turned on ad Play back and Fast Forward worked fine. When I wanted to try Rewind the machine went into Standby and got stuck there. I don't know exactly when it got stuck - if it was when I pressed Stop or Rewind.

The Standby indicator is on. If i switch the power off and on it will pull the drawer in and the capstan runs for a few seconds before it stops. The drawer will not open when the Open button is activated and everything else is also dead.

If I press and hold the Play button (or one of the other buttons) when the machine is powered on, the display lights up like a christmas tree, but turns into standby after a few seconds.

Before I go ahead with the meassuring, I would like to know if this is a known error and if there are any suggestion to where I should begin.

Please note that this message originally was posted in the Nordic forum, but I have translated it and moved it to here where I belive it fits in better.

Happy easter, Martin.

I have re-soldered all the connectors and that brought the machine back to life. Unfortunately the original fault is still present - it still can't Rewind or Fast Forward. It does Play back perfect.

I have bought another Beocord 5500 and this machine has the exact same fault - also after I changed the belt!

Any suggestions?

I'm more familiar with the 5000 which would have similar problems with RR FF due to slipping idler wheels. A light sanding and application of rubber restoring fluid helped greatly.

I've also had problems with transport due to the plastic take up spindles being cracked and causing the cap with the 3 raised bars to stay pushed down against the spring causing slippage when the force or RR FF was applied but also would act up on playback. I'd post a picture if the beoword app was working.

Thanks for your reply Peter and sorry for my late reply.

I gave up on the Beocord and took it to Dillen who I am fortunate enough to live near by! He found out that a gear had a very fine hairline crack which caused the problem. It was glued and everything works perfectly now.

Unfortunately I didn't get the precise details, but I am sure that Dillen will provide them if needed.
