Hello guys,

I'm new to beoworld and I need some help and suggestions!

I just got a Beocord 5000 type 4715... whenever I press the play button (with or without cassette tape) , it makes a big scratchy sound. I cant even hear the music itself... I'm a big newbie in this...so I don't know what to do. Do you think its not compatible with my amp? I use a pioneer sx 650 receiver.

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi,

Welcome to Beoworld!

The 4715 is a complex machine, which works beautifully when it does, but when it doesn't...

Anyway, our friend Rudy of Beolover fame has a section on how to work on this deck - of which I have two - which is really comprehensive. He has become a dedicated B&O specialist now and his blog is absolutely superb.

You will have to buy fresh belts from Martin (aka Dillen here) who has them re-manufactured.

Then a full cleanup and re-cap (that means replacing all electrolytic capacitors) and then re-alignment will be necessary once the mechanics are sorted.

Not for the faint-hearted.

You will also find a thread on the archived Beoworld site.

I for one absolutely love the mechanics, with no silly rubber wheels/idlers and gigantic flywheels. But then again, it is a bit difficult to make work properly.

Jacques
