Hi Newbie,
Beosystem 3 is superb in terms of connections, you can link just about any device to it, including the PlayMaker. All you need is this cable to connect from either PL socket of the PlayMaker to the L-IN and R-IN sockets on either input AV4, AV5 or AV6 of the Beosystem:-

The Beosystem does need to be on, the best option is to leave this always on so that you can play any source at any time without needing to turn on all the plugs.
