I'm currently in the process of cosmetically refurbing my MS150s and need some help with the above. Help could I guess be in 2 forms..
1) Detailed instructions preferably with pics on how to. I've searched old posts but can't find anything. The bit I need help with specifically is how to dismantle them and get the metal trim off without damaging it.
I contacted Wilmslow Audio to see if they could do them. They said that they had done some before but that when taking the metal trim off the frets it was unavoidable to break the trims at the corners... Didn't much like the sound of that!
2) Bearing in mind I have the DIY skills of an elephant it might be better if a forum member who has done a re-cloth job on these type of frets before, could do the job for me - of course for payment.
Any help will be much appreciated!
Cheers
Nigel

Hi CB
You obviously haven't read the thread as the answer to your question is....no.
I'm due to do a pair myself, looking at them I really can't imagine they won't break on the top grill corner section, looks to me that they were bent on to fit them in manufacture , never intended to be removed.
good luck

Are you sure it isn't you that hasn't read all of the MS150 thread?Haha...I couldn't resist that. I have been slow to get around to the MS150 grill covers so I took some out today, removed the metal trim and took pictures of the process. Those are now posted on the MS150 repair thread.
You do have to be patient and take care in the removal of those metal trim pieces as the corners will snap and break if they are bent too far. If that does happen though, it isn't the end of the world as the trim piece that fits into plastic frame slot fits very snug when the cloth is there.-sonavor
sonavor, that is a MASSIVE help, thank you very much. What did you use to prise the metal trim off - just your fingers or a screwdriver? Also, for the top fret, do the 2 parts that are at right angles to each other have to come apart from each other?
I've actually bought a set of frets from a S80 off eBay to practice on first. I'm hoping they'll arrive tomorrow.
That's the problem of having an old, sluggish iPad and pressing the send button numerous times because nothing's happening. Would a moderator kindly tidy up my muppetry?
I used a medium size chisel to get each section started. Then I just carefully pulled the trim off by hand. As you can see in the pictures, the corners are only connected by a small section of metal so too much exercising of that joint will snap the piece off. Look at the underside of the top grill and you should see that the two plastic frame pieces are joined by plastic tabs that have been melted together. They should stay together when you remove the metal trim. If not, you will have to rejoin them (glue probably).
