Hi guys,

I own a pair of beolab 3's. I play music through bs5. But few days ago, in b&o official site i read that i can connect iPhone or iPad directly to beolab3's through airport express. Does anyone of you know how to connect the apple device to the labs. (i have searched the forum about the question but could not find any similar topics)..

I would be grateful for any help with my query.

cheers,
y

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The airport express outputs via its mini-jack an analogue stereo signal, you can split that into two and connect the L and R signals to the two Beosound 3s.

To quote the manual you will needs special cables & switch the settings - I am sure Steve at SOunds Heavenly (see his ad at the bottom of this page) can fix you up.

POWER LINK and LINE socket

Use this socket to connect the loudspeaker to your system...

...To a Bang & Olufsen system:

Use the enclosed Power Link cable to connect the loudspeaker to your system. Remember to set the SETUP switch to RIGHT and LEFT (the right and left sound channel), respectively.

...To a non-Bang & Olufsen system:

Use a special adapter with an ordinary phono/RCA plug in one end, and a DIN-plug in the other (optional accessory, available from your Bang & Olufsen retailer). Remember to set the SETUP switch to LINE.

Alternatively, some people use the AE's optical connection to connect to a DAC 9e.g. Cambridge) and then connect their speakers.

A final option is the B&O PlayMaker announced this week that also provides for Beolabs to be controlled through WiFi.

Or directly from B&O (Item # 6270642) 3,5mm mini jack <> 2 x DIN 8pin PL for approx EUR 30,00

For sure an improvement of sound compared to the mediocre Apple AE analogue output (you can't expect more at that price)

Big Smile ... excellent DAC = excellent sound, can additionally be controlled / operated via Beo 4 / manually
offers possibilities of control, connectivity and system integration in a B&O network ...

For a provisional solution I would choose  the cheap cable solution - regarding the quality of your speakers I'd go for the Playmaker
