I just bought a pair of second hand BL8000 and now when I listen to them there is a lot of noise, They are silent when there is no signal but as soon as they have signal there is noticable amount of white (?) noise. Increasing the volume means that the noise increases as well,
I play flac files from VLC to an Airport Express. My previous el cheapo speakers don't have this problem with the exact same source and a Pioneer amplifier.
It's like listening to a cassette back in the Dolby B days. Any ideas what could be wrong?
Hmm, another annoying detail is that the music is cut when the signal is too low. That means that the last few seconds and the first few seconds of certain songs disappear. Event silent parts in the middle of some songs are cut like this. Is that normal behaviour?
What are the connections?
Airport express via line in?
My experiences with line in and beo stuff are bad (Beolab 8000 and Beoplay S8). Got a little better with more expensive cables but much better via Playmaker or Essence. You get power link connections and correct start and stop behaviour.
Although for the S8 it was really the source (tv) that was the problem. 😉
ilPadrino: What are the connections? Airport express via line in?
Yes. So what are your suggestions?
Buy a used Playmaker or used/new Essence. I was never happy until I did.
It is of course possible that there is something wrong with your speakers...😉
Is it possible to try without the Airport express? Connect directly to amplifier via pre out? To see if you can eliminate the speakers as reason for the noise. I think the combination of Airport express and line in is the reason for the noise.
Will try that tomorrow, but first I need to find a proper cable. This is surprisingly difficult - I need a 3,5 mm tele/phono in one end and RCA in the other. Generally that kind of cable are very easy to find but now I need a cable where you can separate the two RCA connectors a few meters (since the speakers are located a few meters apart) and basically all 3,5 mm tele <--> RCA-cables I find have a small plastic "mounting" 1 dm or so from the RCA end that prevents splitting the cable.
Can you suggest a good supplier of such cable with the odd property - the RCA wires are not attached to each other?
