Well not really but after the iTune discussion, for those who love physical media, should B&O launch their own 4K UHD BluRay player but the twist is, it's the ultimate CD player too. Would you buy something like this? What would be your dream B&O player?

For me, CD wise, it would have the professional Pioneer CDJ2000 Nexus mechanism/damping as nothing upsets that player no matter the volume/vibration in a club or radio studio.

Wonder how many Zero's would be on the price tag?

The idea of a 4k B&O player would be niceSmile

It will never happen. And I don't think B&O should pursue this track.

But, if it does, I would not buy anyway.

CD media are coming to an end. B&O should rather spend time on incorporation loss less streaming services into the devices.

I will eventually buy a UHD bluray player, since I think e.g Netflix 4K streaming is to compressed.

I'd wait for a/the new OPPO player or buy the Panasonic UHD player.

If B&O were to launch a player, it would be a rebranded one anyway - so why bother!

By the way - what is: 'advanced CD player spec'?

In regards to CD players... The mechanism has nothing to do with the sound quality.

Data is being read digitally and even on a crapy player the data will be read 100% accurately.

Only the DAC will make a difference. However if you use a digital connection then the DAC isn't used.

I am sure B&O will let Oppo so all the hard work. The 105 is the player of choice for them to showcase the BL90. All they need to di is add in the PUC code if a 4k 107 ever saw the light of day. I guess it all depends as well when all this mystical 4k media starts to hit the market place. All I ever see is physical technology arriving 2 years before the media and then becomes obsolete just as that media becomes mainstream.

My dream is if they could use the Beosound 5 as the front end for a 4k/UHD bluray player and media render that can play and sort through video files stored in say NAS/dlna drives.

Even though the navigation of Beosound 5 was a bit hard for me to instantly get a hang on I love the physical use of the wheel and its integration of the screen- makes a killer universal two way remote.

kaleidescape to me has the nicest interface for media but their remotes could do better

Why would Beo make their own 4K/Blu-ray/CD player when there is very great stuff on the market.

I use the Oppo Bdp-103D. It is truly awesome with both films and CDs. It looks very elegant and the construction is very good. It reminds me of Beo's DVD1 and DVD2.

I think B&O missed a trick when discontinuing the BeoSound 9000. Had they upgraded the mechanism to be a universal disk player — CD, DVD, Blu-ray, SACD, DVD-A and HDCD — they could have sold significant quantities.

Hi Erik, they may if UHD 4K players take off. The moment has been a complete disaster, what's to stop them leaving the PLAY brand for the streaming/Bluetooth/iPhone market and bring out physical players for the BANG&OLUFSEN brand? Who knows, the industry & markets are totally bizarre right now.

Phil London - when I talked mechanisms, I meant for their strength - The Pioneer CDJs will still play a DVD/CD even if you were to pick it up and practically throw it throw a window. Error correction & damping I guess. But thats what I want. The B&O Century jumped & skipped with the slightest volume increase over 40 - it was lousy whereas I had a Technics 550 CD player for 10 years and it never jumped once even with dirty or scratched discs! It was truly incredible.

I think that CDs will be around for a VERY VERY VERY long time yet just like DVDS. Whilst I don't buy DVDs, I've worked with A LOT of people who certainly still do. Certainly, its very easy to think that the whole market is now streaming but when you look around, you see that it not the case.

Hear! hear (to use my political prose)

Back when they had this out, i thought I would never get one of those, they're too big, I don't use CDs (much) and it's so dated.  But the fact that you can use a ML/NL converter with newer gear and some people i know wanting CD players, it may have made sense.  I trust that the reason they discontinued is because of the lack of sales.

But an updated ones with your specs sounds great.

An unfair post... in the first moment there was hope! Big Smile

If  B&O launches a new "machine" I wished it would be something like Sony SCD-1:

But I guess it will not be manufactured as good as the Sony. Wink

I would surely buy a B&O Blu-Ray Multi-Disc player that can read many formats. There are enough devices like that from e.g. Pioneer

People buy those things. Not everybody loves streaming.

I heard that the Beosound 9000 was very expensive to manufacture, so I believe the margins where too low on that product. That in combination with a decline in sales of dedicated CD players I believe as the reason for discontinuing such an icon.

I agree with TWG. I'm streaming right now on my Apple TV from home sharing on my MacBook Retina. I'm streaming a favourite surfing film using 75meg broadband. The film is 720p and 30 minutes in, the film has frozen and its been like that for 25 minute now. Now this is when I realise that streaming is not always a reliable method. It's ruined my surfing film night :(
