Ive seen different version of essence advertised mark 1 etc
what is the difference?
Beosound 8, Beotime, Beocom 4, Beo 5, Lutron Rania, MacBook 15" (Mid 2015), iPad Pro, iPhone 6S, B&O Play H3, Beolit 12, Form 2, A8 Headphones, B&O Play A1, B&O Essence
The relative pricing can be confusing. The mark 1 price included a wall remote in the box. The mark 2 does not have a remote in the box.

Which I think is a good thing. This way you can choose between the wall remote or a table remote. For me the table remote is much more useful since you can have it next to you in your listening position.

I agree.
For the sake of completeness, it's probably also worth mentioning the two other options - you can have no remote at all and simply control the essence with the beomusic app, or, instead of a remote you can plug in the new IR eye (which has a join button where the timer button used to be on the old eye) and control the essence with a Beoremote One - I suspect you could also use a combination of the IR eye and the essence remote although I haven't tried this myself.

This actually may be the best option. I notice that often there is a time lag between adjusting the volume on the bluetooth Essence Remote and when the change takes place. Sometimes it is minimal, but other times it can be a few seconds. Also there are times when the Essence looses the pairing with the Essence remote. This doesn't happen too often, but it can happen a couple of times in a few day period. I don't know if it is related but I have been woken up in the middle of the night when my Essence turns on and I am fumbling with the remote only to find it doesn't work. I then see it has been unpaired. Other times when it doesn't loose the pairing the Essence remote can become unresponsive and require the unplugging of the Essence to reboot it. There are advantages to IR!
MK2 supports 5 Ghz which can be a big improvement for wireless streaming, also it does multi room so if you have A9, A6 or Beolab 35 around this can get very interesting

As I have understood hints from my dealer, the coming BROne/BT will bring new possibilities there as well.
