I've just bought a Beocenter 7007 to refurbish.

I would like to remove the acrylic turntable cover for cleaning and polishing but am a little concerned that unscrewing the two screws that seem to be holding the cover to the backplate of the chassis will also release the springs that maintain the tension and allow the cover to remain in its open position. Am I worrying unnecessarily?

Any advice gratefully received

Yes, you are worrying unnecessarily.
Keep to the ones reachable from the backside of the Beocenter and you'll be fine.
Mind the plug for the light, though.
