I suppose there's maybe some others like me on the board but I've still never gotten a smartphone, I've had a Serene since 2005, the second B&O thing I ever bought new from the shop (as compared to eBay - I was still a student after all). I should add that I do have an iPod so it's not as if I don't already have music and videos on the go
Anyway, the Serene is finally starting to go a bit and I really amn't enthused by anything out their on the phone scene. Almost everything out there is a glass rectangle with questionable battery life. In all honesty, one of the main reasons I never gotten a smart phone is that the Serene battery lasts days although I'd be lying if I didn't say that I like the talking point nature of bringing out a B&O designed flip phone.
Is there anything anyone can recommend that actually has some cool design going for it? I came across the Runcible phone (Google it) but it's more of a hotspot device, you need a bluetooth headset to use it as a phone and that seems like far too much hassle for a day to day thing. I'd love to have a new phone where you bring it out at a bar and someone goes "hey cool, what is that?"
"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"

I too use a serene everyday, it's pretty battered and lost lots of pixels but it still draws admiring glances
i just don't want to join the mindless masses glued to their phones who don't seem to realise life is out there not in a little glass box
Punkt by Jasper Morrison ?

I think, at least in the US, you can still get Motorola Razr's, and in Japan such flip phones are still popular.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.

Wow, that Punkt thing is about what I was looking for. It's got crazy long battery life and it's a solid nice piece of manuafacturing/design. Nice work!
Hi Calvin,
In all fairness, a smartphone will have incredibly long battery life if you only use it as a 'phone' e.g. make calls and text.
I bought my Aunt the new iPhone SE last month. It's beautifully made, performs superbly and is easy for her to use. The camera and 1080p 60 frames per second video camera on it are superb.
She uses it for FaceTime, to make short calls and the photos/video. Doing this, her phone's battery is last a good 6 to 7 days.
My absolute pleasure of using iPhones has shown me that the battery only lasts a day when I'm playing music, video, streaming, internet browsing and using the radio apps continuously.
In short, I cannot find fault with the iPhone.
Also in all fairness, I do not think that anyone will be 'wowed' with any phone that you take out in a bar in 2016. People simply accept them.

Not sure who designed it but it looks like it could be a Dieter Rams design ala the older Braun stuff he did. Minimal, efficient, and elegant in its way.
Nice Lego Collection, especially the Ecto 1
