I saw in my local B&O shop on the desk, a Beovision 6, well what I thought was a Beovision 6, but it was actually a Beocenter 6 connected to his computer, and one of the DAB radio stations playing.

I am thinking of connecting my Beoport and computer in my home office to a BV6 or BC6 like they have in the adverts

But after reading about these two models I cannot really figure out what the difference is between them both, only that the BV6 came out in 2004 and is still current, and the BC6 came out a bit later in 2006 with built in FM and DAB radio, is radio the only thing that stands them apart, if so I will go for the cheaper BV6

You can distinguish between the two; BC6 has metal speaker frets while the BV6 has cloth.  The primary difference was the Dab module. And then they simply changed the name back again. However, the big difference is the screen. A 2004 BV6-22 will be noticeable dark screened for the first 5 or so minutes as the backlight bulbs get up to temperature.

Of course, the major issue is that neither has a digital receiver and they are both based on an old B&O chassis from the CRT days - but I forget which one.

I had a BV6-22 in my kitchen - it looked great, but the slow boot-up time of 15 seconds and initial brightness were annoying. And it finally went after I moved into my new house and really wanted to stick with Ethernet cabling to distribute TV. Whereas the BV6 requires the old Beolink cabling with an aerial wire to carry the picture - costs loads and does not support HDMI over the link (e.g.. Apple TV)

B&O are missing a trick today - they should reintroduce a kitchen/bedroom tv that is like a BV10 but very thin. Now they have the V1 chassis, this would be very achievable. A 26" BV11 = perfect.

it looks like either of them will do the trick for me then, as long as the video card in my computer has enough resolution ( pixels ) for the LCD screen to work and display really nicely, I won't be using it as a TV in the normal sense of the word, but as a monitor for my computer via the DVI connector.

the playing of Blu-Ray films ( my computer has a Blu-Ray drive ) would be important to me though, but I would have thought the BV6 could cope with Blu-Ray content , even if the resolution it can output is only 1280 x 768 pixels, that is usually quoted as the bare minimum for HD content.

The BC6 resolution is 1366 x 768 pixels, so a touch better  !

NB                                                                                                                                                                                I have also been told that if you want to play HD content like Blu-ray/Blu-ray 3D Disc and TrueTheater 3D playback through a DVI connection you must make sure the graphics card in the computer is HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) compatible, mine isn't so I am going to buy one with 1GB ram on board.

You wouldnt notice much difference with  a screen that size with blu-ray anyways.

good to know Butch, thank you

I will only be about 1 metre away from the screen, so I just wanted to be sure that when I watch Blu-Ray films it will look OK :-)

the chap I am buying the LCD from has confirmed that it is a BV6  26 inch, so I will be going over to his place tomorrow evening to look at the condition of it, and see how good the picture is.

can anyone remind me how to use the Beo 4 remote to find out the hours it has done, and the times it has been turned off and on, or any sort of info that might be handy if it looks like the BV has been constantly on for 5 years or more ?

Hi,

With your remote press: MENU + 0 + 0 + GO. Then select the monitor status and you will see the playing hours/days.
