Hi.. I'm after a MMC1 cartridge in good cosmetic condition that I can get rebuilt at some stage. It doesn't need to be working. Thanks...

Is this just for cosmetic reasons? The MMC1-5 are the same internally (only different cantilevers and styli) so if you have any of them rebuilt they will sound exactly the same.

Hi Lee...

Yes you're right. It would just be nice to have  MMC1 on the top of the cartridge..! There seems to be plenty of 4's and 5's but obviously very few 1's.

I would also add that the real life sound difference between an MMC1 and MMC2 is pretty minimal. MMC2 were standard on some of the high end turntables, and are much more common than MMC1.

From what I understand, an MMC1 is just a hand selected MMC2, selected as passing tighter specifications. I have an MMC2 that thankfully still works and it sounds stunning. I can sort of understand wanting the label to be MMC1, but really, other than yourself how many of your friends will even notice or know the difference between a 1 or a 5?

Eventually either or both my 2 and 4 will need rebuilt, it's just a matter of time.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad
