I have a Playmaker connected directly to a Beolab 2 and Beolab 8000's. I stream music from iTunes Match through my iPad but at low volume levels the sound is too flat. Any ideas how I can add some low end boost. I have tried the EQ built into the iPad. I have tried some apps but they do not work when streaming music. Initially I connected the Playmaker to my Beosound 2300 which worked well but I like the convenience of the direct connection and plan on adding additional Playmakers to more Beolab 8000's - Thank you
Thank you for the solution, it solved the problem.
So - how do one know which values are set?
Important if you want to undo things, or you have bought an already used Playmaker.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
You don't - have to trust your ears! As I recall it, there would seem to be about 3 or 5 clicks up/down on bass/treble adjustments (loudness is only on/off). Resetting to factory default should also reset the audio settings - so you can safely buy a used one. Would be nice to have an app to control the PM incl. audio settings, though...

that's true, it's should be more important that you are satisfied with the sound than knowing that you are back on factory default or wherever, even if the device is bought second hand. same philosophy as to why beo does not indicate volume level on televisions, or at least didn't on older sets

P.S. I never had a B&O tv, that did not indicate the volume level.
Millemissen:P.S. I never had a B&O tv, that did not indicate the volume level.
MX4000 / 4002 / 6000 for example, and I believe every other set with the Unity / Unity2 chassis as well.
(as far as I recall, the preset volume level is shown in the setup menus, but there's no visual feedback at all while being normally adjusted)

UH - you got me there.
I do have my old MX4002 still connected, but hardly ever use it.
If - then just for sound from the audio system. And in that case I don't see any volume level indication anyway.
My old - long gone - MX6000 had the BL5000 connected - so at that time I was always aware of the volume level.
Looking back I think I even had 'volume etc' displaying via the two-way control of my BL5000 - not sure of that. It is too long ago.
The Avant had the external display for that.
And my BV8 and the V1 displays it on-screen.
But still you are right - you got me there

DMacri:Now I've tried to set loudness, but it does not seem to make a difference. What button do you press, once you select loudness, to turn it on?
You have to select A.mem to control the PM, then go to list, select a.setup, hit go. Then you see bass. Hitting list again and again scrolls treble, loudness and s.store. If you for example want to switch between loudness on and off, you have to push the up button above go. Listen to the sound, so you can hear if loudness is now on or off. This is because you can't see the selected adjustments. Bass and treble have 5 clicks up and 5 clicks down as possibilities. So change while listening.
Select a.store and hit go to save the eq settings you've made.
I'm going to test this myself tomorrow, because I also bought a PM and beo4 to connect directly to my BL8000's.
How does it sound in combination with the BL2? I'm also interested in this subwoofer in combination with my BL8000's, but can't make up my mind (subwoofer for music versus movies, best of both worlds, etc)...

Aussie Michael: Hi Tutti, are you saying that you can change the settings on the Playmaker? e.g. The loudness ?
Hi Tutti, are you saying that you can change the settings on the Playmaker? e.g. The loudness ?
Yes and no...
An hour ago I installed my own Playmaker and tested it for the first time (you know, like I described in the flash your b&o thread, I want to replace my Marantz receiver for the Playmaker).
It sounds excellent! More detailed compared to my Marantz. So I will remove and sell the Marantz.
I found out that I can adjust treble and bass. You can hear the difference. I think it is 5 clicks up and 5 clicks down. Unfortunately you can't see what you do, so adjust while listening.
I found out that in my case loudness doesn't do anything. I don't hear any differences when I push up or down while I've selected this option. So bass and treble work (you can push the up and down buttons and hear the difference) but I don't hear any difference when I try this with loudness. Doesn't matter if I listen while volume is high or low.
Can you try this on your pm?

DMacri:My Beo4 doesn't have A.Mem, but I could adjust bass and treble, just not loudness. Nothing seems to have any impact on the loudness setting.
Ok, thanks for replying. So we can assume that loudness just doesn't do anything on the playmaker, because you and I both tested it.The manual also doesn't say anything about the possibility to adjust this.It does describe how you can change the maximum volume output (also using A.Setup in LIST).On the other hand, I searched google and this forum for Loudness+Playmaker and found one (just one) topic where forummember 'KMA' wrote:
The Loudness function, which can be turned on in the PlayMaker via Beo5 / Beo4, is well implemented. I played with it, and it makes the sound of the PlayMaker fuller and "rounder", in the similar fashion as Loudness in B&O's other audio systems does. It's also possible to tweak the sound characteristics by adjusting bass and treble. I would NEVER use the Loudness function or other presets found in my iPad's and iPhone's music player, as they are horribly executed. Any other setting than FLAT in an i-thingy just spoils the sound. Not so when tweaking the settings in PlayMaker. I do hope B&O does not disable the sound settings in future firmware updates.
Maybe his Playmaker was a mk1 (mine is a mk2 with the newest 2662 firmware) and this makes a difference?
So the things we can adjust are:
- Adjusting the speaker output maximum level:http://bogo.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8223/~/how-do-i-change-the-speaker-output-level-on-playmaker%3F
- Change the infrared behaviour (if you have other B&O equipment in the same room):http://bogo.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7050/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDc2NjAyNTk0L3NpZC9CaUpWSGQxbg%3D%3D
- Set it to a fixed volume:http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/5143.aspx
- Adjust bass/treble(downside is you can't visualise what you are setting, but it does work):select A.mem to control the PM, then go to list, select a.setup, hit go (on older Beo4's without A.mem I think it is called A.tape). Then you see bass. Hitting list again changes it to treble. Listen to the sound, so you can hear the differences between the made bass and treble settings. This is because you can't see the selected adjustments. Bass and treble have 5 clicks up and 5 clicks down as possibilities I guess.
Another thing I noticed: I searched for the differences between the mk1 and the mk2:- Only the mk2 can update the firmware automatic through internet (with the app/login on the ip-adres)- Only the mk1 should play high-res FLAC filesI tested playing some FLAC files on my mk2 (Using dlna apps like Creation5 on the iPad and DLNA Player on my android devices) and the Playmaker 100% plays them (even 24bit 96khz files). I am 100% sure no transcoding is done (off on my Synology NAS, where the files are located). How is this possible? Who said mk2 doesn't play FLAC?!? (I'm glad, because my yesterday installed mk2 does everything I want).Sound is great, even on low volumes, so Loudness isn't 'needed' for me, but I just wanted to test it, because I read that it would be possible (like bass and treble)...
