Hi All,
I have a Beovison 9 type 9721. The Tv has developed a black strip about 6 inches vertically from the top on the right side of the screen. I'm thinking this could be one of the ribbon connectors along the bottom? It does come and go so I think it is a loose connection.
I'm happy to strip it down and re-seat this or the other plan would be to pick up a replacement plasma.
The question I have is- has anyone tried taking a BV9 apart? Would using a BV4 as a donor be a good idea is the fix doesn't work? Or could I use a Panasonic plasma (but not sure which model I would go for and any issues on compatibly)

It sounds like panel failure on your TV by the description, but the BV9 screens are generally really good - and I've never, ever had one back with a panel fault!
The screen, as you are aware, is a Panasonic (I'm pretty sure the Mk2 BV9 was a D10) then you could indeed use a BV4 panel and just drop it straight in. All the BV9 was, was a BV4-50, a BeoSystem 3, and a BeoLab 7.4 all in a big MDF box with a soft-touch coating...
I'm not sure how easy lifting a Panasonic panel from a Panny TV and dropping it into your TV would be though.

Many thanks for the response. What about selecting the right type no of BV 4 as a replacement? Is this an issue or will any of the HD variants work?
I've not removed the frame on the BV9 yet but if it's anything like the BV5 I had it just pulls off to reveal the panasonic plasma in all it's glory underneath as a complete unit. Not having had a BV4 isn't the aluminium surround attached differently which means the front is structurally different.?

The early non HD won't work, and you wouldn't put anything less than a 1080 capable screen in.

I have done a couple. Not hard at all. Pop off the frame carefully. If you have the camera unplug it. Then remove the speaker cover. I think it has eight torx screws. There are two Allen screws under the panel in the wood frame that lift the panel into a locking bracket. . Lower the screws all the way down. The panel will tilt forward from the top. Here you really need two people. One to hold the panel and the other to unscrew the DVI and serial cables. Then unplug the power cable and lift it out.
At this point you need to remove the rear bracket from the panel and attach it to the new panel. Assemble is just the reverse.
You can can open the old panel and check the ribbon connectors. May only need to remove it and clean and replace.

Thanks again, this is very helpful and pretty much what I was hoping it would be. Did you replace the whole screen unit and can I use any 'type' number' replacement BV4 unit that is an HD variant? I had been considering getting hold of a Panasonic display but the model numbers thing is a real mine field as there seem to be so many variations. Once I take it apart I'll have a better idea of what is what..
