Hi

I've recently bought a BV 6- 26 to use in the bedroom and which will be linked to audio/video masters in other rooms.

I suspect it's an early model as it doesn't have component input - just scarts and possibly camcorder (haven't looked under the flap!)

I have a few questions which I'd be grateful for some advice on.

1. What's the best option for connecting an Apple TV 1

Component to scart?

2. What's the best option for connecting HD devices?

3. Are there any sensibly prices STBs for digital TV that can be recommended?

(I assume it will pull the sky digibox output from the main tv - but it might be useful to have a separate box  direct into the BV 6 -26)

Thanks in advance

Alan

Good morning,

I use a BV6-26 and ATV4 as my main TV at present but it's not linked to any other B&O.  In answer to your questions:

- Your BV6-26 probably has a DVI input socket in a small panel on the left of the rear (when viewed from the back).  For the best picture quality, this should be used for any digital video sources (like ATV).  As far as I know, the ATV1 has a hdmi output, hence you could use an hdmi to DVI lead for the video, and then a separate phono lead to carry the L/R audio from the ATV to the red/white PC audio sockets behind the main panel.  You would select this input by pressing PC on the remote.  One problem with this connection method is that you will not be able to watch content encoded with hdcp because the TV is not capable of the HDCP 'handshake' - google HDCP if you need to find out more.

- You cannot simply convert component to SCART as the latter does not carry component signals - only RGB and composite.  However, apparently there is a 'hack' for the ATV1 that enables you to convert one of the three component outputs into composite.  If you did this, you could feed the composite video and audio into one of the SCART connections, this leaving the DVI input for another HD device.

- If you wish to connect a device that just has an hdmi output (and no separate audio connections) - such as ATV4, you can do what I do and make use of a separate 'audio extractor'.  This extracts the audio from the hdmi signal, hence you can then connect hdmi to the BV6's DVI socket (for video) and the red/white PC/phono for audio.

- Ref STBs, I have used Humax in the past and they work well - look at their refurbished models for the best deals: https://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/refurbished.html   If you want to control it with Beo4 via the STB controller then have a look at what is already in the BV6's STB list and buy one of those (maybe second-hand), but this will have to be something that connects via SCART.

- Lastly, the main TV (assuming B&O) will not distribute digital video sources to link TVs unless it is additionally fed with an analogue signal from the Skybox (i.e SCART in addition to hdmi).

I hope this helps!

Hi Guy

Thanks for the advice - very helpful.

I've found the DVI flap and will use that in the first instance and go with a STB into scart.

I hadn't come across the HDMI audio extractors before -so again very useful advice.

Much appreciated.

With the ate 1 st generation you can set it to use composite using firecore, see the link on how to do it
