Last year I bought a Beocord 5000 cassett deck.
The deck will play, ff and rewind, but stops after about 3 seconds and draws back the heads. Capstan motor runs smooth and soundless, also after the heads are drawn back.
I changed most (but not all) of the elco´s and checked the belts. Belts seemed to be fine so I did not replace them.
I thought that it might be a motor overload who kicks in, but it reacts the same when I disconnect the belt from the transport motor (so the transport motor runs idle).
Ideas and advise would be very welcome.
Regards,
Hans.
Did you get the belt on correctly for the tape motion sensor? This belt is a bit fiddly and almost only possible to put on just before the top cover is closed down completely, working in from the side of the Beocord. If the belt is on (both belts actually, because there are two, one after the other), check the position and condition of the reed relay with regards to the rotating magnet, it could sit too far or it could be broken.

Hello Martin, thanks for your reply.
If that is the belt that drives the digits wheel: no, I tested it with the deck in the service stand.
I will try again with the belt on.
That's why, then. The motion detector sits together with the tape counter. If not driven the deck will stop.
