I recently hooked up a BeoSound Essence (1st gen) with my BeoLab Transmitter 1 to BeoLab 17 and it hums....

Read somewhere in this forum that unshield cable should be the cause so I replaced the power link cable with AudioQuest Cinnamon -which is considerably a premium grade cable- and to my surprise, the hum becomes even more apparent!!

When I connect my Mac mini directly to BeoLand Transmitter 1 there's no hum at all so I assume the culprit must be the BeoSound Essence. Any thoughts on how should I solve this problem? Thank you~ Smile

Hi Mrjob,

Yes, this sounds like a cabling problem!  Conventional RJ45 Cat cables (even so-called "high-end" brands) are not correctly shielded for use with B&O's audio systems or TVs.  They are intended for digital signals, ie. Ethernet.

To prevent the hum, you need correctly shielded RJ45 cables:-

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve, thank you. Surprised to hear B&O system requires different shielding. Will check your cable out!
