I have a BeoPlay A8, it is the all black version.  I finally figured out how to download all of the latest software to the device.  It is now connecting to WiFi.   However, I am confused?  Not sure that I understand the purpose of being able to WiFi?  What does connecting it to WiFi allow me to do?  Is there ANYONE that can help me with this?  Please explain the purpose of being able to connect to WiFi?  I am just confused?  Please help me to answer this question?  I it now no more meaningful than just a BeoSound 8?   Thanks!! ANYONE.

You get Airplay support (not AP2) and - depending on the version of the A8 - also support for DLNA over your home network.

The BS8 had the old connector, the A8 the Lightning.

N.B. You can find the User Guide on the B&O website.

Surely the point of having wi-fi (and Ethernet) on the BeoPlay A8 is that it allows you to Airplay to the A8. This was not possible on the BeoSound version as far as I know.

EDIT - sorry, didn’t see MM’s response.
