Hello,

Santa was very kind to me this year, I found a Beogram 1500 under my tree. And so begins my foray into

vinyl and B&O. Something I've always wanted to get into but hadn't known where to start.

So, with the record player part achieved, I now move onto the rest of the jigsaw.

To my knowledge I need:

1) Stylus (unsure what make, appreciate pointers)

2) Speakers (some idea...)

3) AMP (help)

4) Speaker wire (pls help also)

What little I understand, is that this deck doesn't come with built in AMP's, and so I need to get a pre-amp and amp to power a set of passive speakers?

My brother in law, DJ's and is a bit of a audiophile, recommended going for some lovely old Wharfdale speakers (inkeeping with the era, and also less likely to break my bank balance!). I've had a scan and seen a few nice looking things such as these Linton 3 XP http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272472607594

I have so far, perhaps foolishly (or geniusly) just parted with £55 on ebay to purchase a B&O Pasive Sound Amplifer 1651 S/W 1.3 (incl power lead & amp). But I'm now wondering if this is actually the sort of AMP I need, or wether this does something altogether different? Do I need a system to plug this into or will it simply plug into the 5pin lead out the back of the player?

I also, was of the impression the above thing would work in conjunction with this below: (excuse copied text) would work? Am I in the right direction?

As you can see, I'm at a bit of a loss. Appreacitate any help.

Cheers!

BeoGram RIAA Pre-Amp + Cables for Bang & Olufsen B&O BeoSound

(Ver: Mk2)

Our Mk2 'RIAA Pre-Amplifier' allows you to connect a turntable (B&O or non-B&O without RIAA Pre-Amp built in) to your Bang & Olufsen audio system's 7-pin Aux socket (5-pin also available.) Naturally, we have made the system fully compatible for use with other manufacturers turntables also. The unit has premium grade RCA sockets with gold plated contacts. We have also included two very high quality cables for connection to your turntable and B&O music system. The cables are constructed using oxygen free copper (OFC) for optimal sound quality and transfer.

Mradamjames:

1) Stylus (unsure what make, appreciate pointers)

Only a B&O cartridge will work - Soundsmith make new ones but expensive.

2) Speakers (some idea...)

Nothing wrong with Wharfedale Lintons - nice speakers. If you want B&O ones, Beovox S45.2s are the best medium speakers B&O made.

3) AMP (help)

Afraid you have bought a power amplifier for a much later system - I wouldn't start with that!

This is good and comes with a cassette player as well! Pre-amp is built in.

4) Speaker wire (pls help also)

Depends on what speakers you buy - and which amp - seriously speaker wire doesn't make that much difference - B&O wire is very good and cheap. If you buy a Beomaster and Beovox speakers, it needs 2 pin din connectors - male one end female the other.

Where do you live? Are you a student and hence poor? I bought a BG1902 and BM2400 when a student in 1980 and have never looked back.
