Hi guys

Right now i have a 6500 system, a non B&O TV and MCL in two rooms.
But i would like the independent volume control in the link rooms.
I keep the 6500 system as i listen to Vinyl and i will loose the Beogram remote control functions with newer audiomasters.

I have a 1611 in my basement, and i am looking at buying two Beolab 3500 for the rooms.

Is it a matter of connecting the 1611 to an output on the 6500 and then connect the two 3500's with masterlink to the 1611?

Have i missed something?

Bonus question: Where does the 3500's get the correct time for the clock from when i have no "true" Video/Audio Master?

Yes simply a 7-pin Datalink cable between the BM6500 (TV/AUX socket) and the 1611, and then ML cable to any other devices - simply wire them in parallel or use a masterlink connection box.  In this setup there is no need for any Powerlink connections.

You should be able to leave your current MCL devices in situ also.

And I think (but am not sure) that the BL3500s will get the 'time' from the BM6500 via datalink.

Regards

Guy

My TV/AUX socket is occupied by my TV (surprise)

Is it possible to connect the 1611 via Datalink to one of the other inputs? Tape?

Or would it be possible to split the TV/AUX socket? 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7 to the 1611 and 2, 3 and 5 to the television? Or is pin 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7 the same on the Tape socket?

?

No. It is a Samsung tv. My Beo4 is modified with a Bosscom PCB ( Boss com link )

When i press TV on the Beo4 my TV turns on, The Beomaster turns on (on AUX). Alle Beo4 buttons are for the TV except the Volume which controls the Beomaster. The off buttons turns both the tv and the beomaster.

I cannot change the PCB to turn on Tape or something else. I have send a mail to Bosscom about it. No answer.

If you go to the Masterlink Handbook and turn to page 17 (Page 21 in the PDF). Picture 5 shows a Y-split. That makes me think that this is possible.

Thanks - that makes sense.

I think that an splitter for the AUX/TV socket would work.  The reason that I asked about the TV was that a B&O TV would possibly have confused the datalink.  I do not think the 1611 would work if connected to another socket.

I had a similar set-up with my BC9500: I used the AUX/TV socket through a Y-splitter to connect to both a 1611 (and an ML system) and provide AUX input from my playmaker.

I used this cable from Steve: http://soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/11--aux-y-7pin-.html

That sounds really good!

I will go that way then, unless someone else replies to this thread.

When i set it up i will try the 1611 on another socket just to test it. I can't find anyone who says whether it works or not.

In the service manual of the BM6500, on the block diagram, it shows Datalink going via a 'buffer' to PIN6 of TV/AUX.  The other sockets have Data Link connections direct (no 'buffer') from the processor to PIN7.

But as you said, worth a try!
