Thanks for the info, dear MM.

But after reading test of Avant on FlatpanelsHD I doubt it's a good idea to replace a Beo4 by the BeoRemote One:

"The new One feels markedly different in the hand than the Beo4. It is lighter and narrower. If you have big hands it is not quite as comfortable to use. However, the One really stands out because of its tactile feedback - or lack thereof. On Beo4 buttons were divided into sections and many buttons had small bumps, which meant that they were easy to find even without looking - only after you learned the layout, naturally. On new One there are no sections or groups of buttons and the buttons are almost completely flat. It is pretty much impossible to identify the different buttons with your finger. Besides the round GO button it is hard to really know what you are doing unless you look down at the remote. We often had to turn on a light during our review to navigate through the menu systems, which was frustrating."

The only thing I criticized on Beo4 was an illuminated display to see the different commands when pressing LIST. On the ONE this display is illuminated and this is fine. But now I fear I will miss illuminated buttons on the ONE at all because it will be hard to use this remote in the dark or even without looking down at the remote.

I'm excited to hear some experiences from users who switch from Beo4 to the ONE....

I have been using the One for months now and I get annoyed every time I use my bedroom TV now that has the Beo4 (going to change it soon probably).

I like some things about the 4 more than the one but also the other way around. I wish there was more tactile feel on the buttons of the one. And that the front edges was smoothed down because they are VERY sharp. I have cut myself several times on them.

I like the illuminated screen on the Beoremote one and that it is lighter.

Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2,
BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century,
BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i,
BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40,
BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)

I used the One for the first time last night and coming from the Beo4 it was a jarring experience, it is virtually impossible to use while not looking at it (or in a darkened room) with the way all the keys just run into each other & not split into sections, the lack of illuminated keys is also a real let down.

If they had put a small bump on the '5' key it would of helped navigate the numeric keys.

But the screen is nice & it's really easy to configure the TV & Music lists, altho renaming an option could become tedious after a while with the really small scrolling keyboard, but here there are some predefined options, like scrolling to 'A' brings up the likes of AppleTV, 'S' brings up Sky etc.

I'll have to get used to it because my Beo4 went with my old BV7. Oh well...

Joe.

There is definitely some getting used to.

I have started to enjoy it.

I do agree on the separation of buttons.

It's a little more difficult to manipulate in the dark than the Beo 4.

But the list function is heads and shoulders better for my money.

I am to receive my second one today as a matter of fact.

First thing I asked (at BeoCare) after the Avant launch was, if the Avant can be controlled with the Beo4.

The answer was: Yes.

There are pros (really good ones) and cons (quite a few) with this new remote.

It is designedto be looked at when handling.

Don't know if I can get/want to get used to that despite the pros.

Some people like it - some don't.

Others just get used to it.

It I can get used to and like it I thinks it people can. It's not hard to find the buttons when you are used to it. It's not very easy to use beo4 when you don't know it either. It's been around since 92. It's easy now but I get so annoyed having to remember guide is on a certain color etc. With beoremote one it is much easier and no - it's not necessary to look at it nor is it designer to be looked at while using it (at least I don't think so from how it is designed). It's easy to use without looking at it and it is much more flexible than the beo4.

Just that you can change names, easily arrange and so on is really good.

Just the fact you can see the screen in darkness is heavenly! Using list on my beo4 in the evening or during movie watching means having to memorize how many times I have to press list and every other button. I guess you have to try something else to understand how annoying it is!

And yes, the avant can be used with other remotes (it is the same platform as V1/11 so of course). And the v1 and 11 can use the remote too. You just select which remote you use in settings and it configures to work as well as possible with the remote you have.

Sure, beo4 is really nice but beoremote one is even nicer. Great to not have the joystick too.

Does anybody know when BeoRemote One will be available in brushed aluminium?

I saw the ONE in a store and I hated the fingerprints on this shiny aluminium. I don't like to wear gloves before picking up the ONE!

Räuber has greasy fingers Embarrassed

A quotation from the Flatpanels test:

"We had feared that such an aluminum design would easily get scratched after a few weeks of use, but that was actually not the case.

The One still looks neat and polished at the time of publication.

Anodizing aluminum is after all one of the Bang & Olufsen’s trademarks."

I am only buying this remote if they make a dark grey or black version. To much naked aluminum for my taste...

Hi MM. One can hope it will turn out that way. I love the aluminum as a material but no so much for the actual "colour". I think it can be too dominating and too much "show off". I like it subtile - you must feel the quality rahter than see it... Maybe it is just me.

I hope they go crazy with colours like they have with the H6. That way you could have different coloured remotes for different rooms Big Smile

@ Frederik Beoberg

Take the new BeoRemote One in your hands.

Play with it and use it.

The weight is light and design functions are ergonomical.

The shiny color aluminium body looks phantastic.

It create a nice contraste with black buttons. It reflect like a mirror your color room.

The best remote control from Bang & Olufsen ever made. Yes - thumbs up

It would also eliminate the issue I and others must have in a MLd house where each Beo4 is configured for a particular setup in a specific room to reduce the List scrolling... I have a small label on the bottom of the remote so I can find the correct remote when they have been mixed up. Different colors would b a nice solution

After using the Beoremote One, I have to say that the Beo 4 does feel much better due to its wider body and bigger weight. The Beoremote One does not feel as ergonomic in my hand as the Beo 4. It would be nicer to transform the innards of the One into a 4.

Don't forget it is available in steel. My retailer suggested the remotes without tv might be steel and the other ones aluminum but might be a free choice as well.

Preliminary response from my dealer was "no", Beoremote One is not available yet. I'll get more info on Monday.

I'm beginning to think that one of Millemissen's dealers "jumped the gun" in their newsletter. Dealerwise, it wouldn't be the first time, re: BR One.

If Beoremote One is available in Denmark (and nowhere else), I'll drop by in Copenhagen.

B&O has informed that Beoremote One will be available at the end of the year (Nov/Dec). At least in Finland ordering BR One is not yet possible.

The conflicting reports here are interesting, though. I wish B&O would make an official statement about the matter.
