I have some old legacy devices that I'd like to include into my NL setup through a Chromecast Audio. I believe this should be straight forward, but there may be some more complicated things to achieve, for which I'd need guidance from this forum:

1) Is it correct that there is no way that I can "cast" from the Beomusic app directly to chromecast audio devices (but only to NL)? If so, this means I will be dependent on the native Deezer, Spotify et al apps? Does anyone know whether this will change with the upcoming new releases of the Beomusic apps?

2) There is no way that I can distribute a chromecast stream from a NL device to other NL devices? Also, no way to distribute a NL stream from a NL device (with chromecast receiver) to other chromecast devices (without NL)? So, not easy to bring both NL and chromecast into sync

First things first: 'include old legacy devices into my NL setup through a Chromecast Audio'.

I am not sure, what you mean there?

To:

1) The Beomusic app is the control app for one or more NL devices.

It is not a player, and I doubt that this will ever change.

and to:

2) No, you are right - this does not work.

At least not yet - maybe that will change as did with AirPlay and distribution over the NL network.

But ---- you certainly can group the 'Google Cast receivers' in the NL devices (and other cast enabled devices) using the

Google Home app to achieve one or even more groups of (all) your devices.

These can then be choosen within the Google Cast enabled apps (e.g. TuneIN, Spotify, Deezer....) to play in sync.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Let me clarify on "legacy devices". I really enjoy my (old!) Beosound1, which I still find one of the most iconic speakers that B&O has done. Also, I enjoy my Beolit12. Both of them, I have attached a Chromecast Audio, so I can multi-room cast to them. My issue is that I would like to play them in-sync with NL.

Let me share a bit more of my issues / use cases and there may be some ideas in this forum how to achieve this. You are right that I could just fully switch to native apps (Deezer app, Spotify app, etc.) and then I can play in-sync to both NL devices (with cca) and other chromecast audio devices. There are two issues, which prevent me from going this route through:

1) DLNA app - I really like how the beomusic app allows me to cast from my dlna server to NL devices and this is a way how I frequently listen to music. Unfortunately, there are very few apps for IOS that allow me to stream from DLNA server to chromecast devices. VLC has still not implemented chromecast streaming. I dislike the GUI and UX of allcast, goodplayer or C5. People here complain about the beomusic app (incl. me), but if you look at allcast et al, the beomusic app is great. Would be curious to learn what others are using for casting DLNA to chromecast.

2) Turn on BV7 - I have a ML/NL converter with a CCA over line-in attached to my BV7. When I stream via the beomusic app, the BV7 turns on (audio only, no screen), which is very important to me as I don't want to hassel first with some Deezer app to start the music playing to CCA and then going to the beomusic app to turn on the audio stream on the BV7. If I were to eliminate the ML/NL and connect the CCA directly to the BV7, I think it would get even worse as I would then need to use the Beo4 to turn on and then also p.mute. I really like how the beomusic app with ML/NL allows me to play audio easily, but not sure whether this can be done when using CCA devices multi-room.

3) All-in one app - I enjoy that the beomusic app can play DLNA, tunein, deezer. All in one app. When switching to chromecast, I would need three apps for this task. If (1) and (2) could be addressed, this would be my smallest issue though and something I could live with.

Any more thoughts appreciated!

Any thoughts on above? Particularly on my first question. I am really in desparate need on a proper DLNA controlling device for IOS. Thanks in advance!

You have already started another thread - to which I have contributed.

Therefore I won't comment further on this one.

You can definitely synchronize chromecast across Beo chromecast devices and other chromecasts. You can "group" them into a chromecast group and then music cast to the group is synchronized.

I do this frequently with my Essence (mk2) and a chromecast audio connected to my Bs9000.

Yes definitely, Stan - but this is not the 'problem' here.

Steve1977 is asking for a (iOS) DLNA app, that unfortunately does not exist ---- because these do not support Google Cast.

A solution may consist of running a BubbleUpnp server somewhere...

Yes I know BubbleUpnp player is Android only, but the server allows you to "create" DLNA renderers or OpenHome renderers (based on your Chromecast groups/devices) that may be seen by other apps (that's what I understood, and I may be wrong...).

Read this --> https://www.bubblesoftapps.com/bubbleupnpserver/#googlecast

I did not want to suggest that solution - it seemed far too complicated to me...

....although I haven't tried it out.
