Hello!

My BeoGram 6000 type 5512 sound distorted ONLY when CD-4 switch is ON.
I tested with 4 different cartridges (2 x MMC 4000, MMC 5000 and MMC 6000) and different records but the results were the same.
That happened when plays CD-4 record and sometimes when plays stereo record and CD-4 decoder is automatically activated (the 4CH lamp is glowing) by a certain frequency value of musical sound for example the sound of cymbal.
After cymbal's performance the sound on stereo record is clear and the 4CH lamp is shut down.
Please help me if anyone knows about that.

Best regards,
                         Catalin.

If you are playing stereo records, you need to switch the CD4 decoder off. CD4 records use a carrier frequency that activates the CD4 decoder and certain stereo signals will trigger this.  This probably explains it best.

The CD4 system is not that good these days for two reasons:

1. The cartridges can no longer track at the necessary frequencies due to degradation of the suspension and the gradual wear of the stylus.

2. Any record played on a stereo deck with a cartridge tracking at a heavy weight will have been rendered useless.

You do come across the odd decent record but most are awful. SQ was not as good new but is better now.

Hello!

Thank you for advice.
I thought it is about an electronic issue (some broken connections/fried resistors/bad capacitors/diodes/transistors/ICs).

Best regards,
