Beosound 1 IR range

I can't seem to find the code or increase the IR range of my BS1

It's at most a few inches from the face.

I have tried three different beo4 remotes each same result. Took cover off but can't see anything unusual or covering the lens.

It's at my desk so not a big inconvenience but the beocom won't turn the sound down when phone rings due to short range. It works of I put the phone to directly at the BS1 but not otherwise.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Nearest shop is five hours away.
