There is a possibility that my wife and I will be relocating to another city and forced to downsize as we move into more of a major metro area than where we currently are, and my work will be having us relocate more often.

It is a good opportunity for us, so there are no regrets apart from the fact that we're likely going to have to let go of some of our B&O. Currently our system is small compared to others on these forums: Beovision 11-55 connected to a pair of Beolab 9s, and in a dedicated music room, a pair of Beolab 20s connected to a Beosound Essence MkII. We also have a couple of  BeoPlay speakers.

I'm researching Sonos as a viable (and more portable) option as a replacement since I'll be getting rid of the brains of the current system (the BV11-55), we're not much TV or movie watchers anyway, so this isn't a big deal; and we won't be replacing it with a beosystem or a smaller beovision.

The conundrum for me is that I don't want to let go of both pairs of speakers. I really like both speakers for different reasons so they're a toss up for me. So the questions are as follows:

If YOU had a choice to make, BL9 vs BL20, which one would you choose to keep, and why? Or would you keep both speakers and use them in a Sonos setup? (if so, what would your setup look like?)

In preparation, I'm contemplating buying and trying out a Sonos Connect and to see what the user experience is like. But before I purchase the requisite cables and the box itself for a trial run, I'd like to know:

How easily can I connect either the BL9 or BL20 to a Sonos Connect? What would I need?

Does anyone have any real-world experience with a pair of Beolabs connected to a Sonos that they can share?

Interesting problem to have.

Personally I'd pick a BL20 over a 9 any day since you already have them, they're roughly the same shape and style just one is newer and has more connectivity options. Personally I don't like how the BL20 looks but that's just me.

Connecting either to a Sonos shouldn't be a big deal, both model BL with proper cabling can be utilised in line mode.

As always the complication comes with if you're interested in connecting whichever non-b&o tele... That usually requires research and planning to buy additional converters and such.

Why Sonos?

You already have an Essence!

If you decide to keep both pairs, just add another Essence.

If only one pair - I'd definitely go for the 20's.

Millemissen:
Why Sonos?

Because, I can integrate Sonos more easily with non B&O products we already own straight out of the box (no need to purchase a gateway, etc.)

Alright - I thought we were talking 'downsizing' ;-)

Now it seems, that - more or less - is about getting rid of the tv.

Using the BL9/20 with a Sonos Connect however, is no problem.

Just ask Steve at Sounds Heavenly for the right cables.

keep both and use them with Sonos.

Then do as Millemissen already wrote: Buy the right cables and keep enjoying your B&O speakers.

If you have the space: Keep the TV, too ;-)

You will have a living room where ever you go to. so keep the tv plus a set of speakers. If you don't have the chance to put the one speaker set in another room, give them to a friend/a family member while you are away. You will have a bigger place again some day, so look forward to have your speakers back. Big Smile

Living Room: Beosystem 4, Beolab 7-2 (Center), Beolab 9 (Fronts), Beolab 8000 (Rears), no Subwoofer. Screen: Sony KD-85XH9096
Dining Room: Beosound Essence MK II with Beolab 4000 on stands, fed by Amazon Echo Show 8
Home Cinema: Beosystem 4, Beolab 7-4 (Center), Beolab 1 (Fronts), Beolab 4000 (Rears). Projector: Sony VPL-HW55
Home Office: Beosystem 3, Beolab 7-4, Beolab 5000, Screen: Sony KD-55XH9005 on Beovision 7-40 stand, ML to Beosound 9000 MK3 and Beosound 5/Beomaster 5 (1 TB SSD version)
Bedroom: Sony KD-65XH9077, Beosound Essence MK II with Beolab 6002 and Beolab 11 (all white, wall-mounted)

In storage: Beolab 5000/Beomaster 5000 (1960s).

If you are an iOS user I wouldn't touch the sonos as they don't support Airplay and you have to play all your music through their own app.

Tons of fantastic Airplay speakers out there that also have Chromecast.

I think the Sonos App is great.

Using sonos makes lots of devices usable as remotes, player is the sonos device not the tablet/phone - which for me is the better way to go.

Using sonos since napster started their streaming service. Have been on spotify, now deezer.

Sonos supports most services, radio stations, podcasts, etc.
