Hi all,

I've recently bought a Beocenter 7000 and would like to connect these to my (active) Beolab 4000. What is the best way to do this?

Thanks!

Certainly do-able but not ideal. You can buy an attenuator kit from Steve at Sounds Heavenly,a sponsor of this site.

The attenuator will step down the signal level from the loudspeaker sockets. If you also set the Beolab 4000 to "auto" mode, they will power up/down automatically when a signal is present or not.You control the volume as usual,on the units keyboard,or via the remote control.

I say it's not ideal,as you are amplifying the already amplified signal, and in theory increasing the noise level, but the Beocentre 7000 has a good and quiet output stage,so this would probably only upset the purist's among us?

Give it a try,and let us know how you get on?

Regards,

Nick

Hi Bojdejong,

Thanks for your enquiry, yes this certainly is possible, as Nick suggested.  It is worth noting that there are two versions of Beolab 4000 speakers, each of which needs different cables.  You can tell which version you have by checking the first digit of the serial number (on the sticker at the back of the speakers), mk.1 speakers start with a "1" and mk.2 speakers start with a "2".  The early speakers will need to connect via their RCA line socket, while the later speakers don't have this socket, so they need to connect via their Powerlink sockets.

Here are the two connection options for Beolab 4000 mk.1 speakers (1992-2007):-

1) Connect two speakers to the headphone socket of the receiver with this cable: http://soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/77--trs-2rca-.html

2) Connect two speakers to the red and black speaker terminals on the back of the receiver using this special Attenuated Converter: http://soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/33--attenuator-.html and then use this cable to connect the speakers to the output sockets of the Converter: http://soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/6-av-processor-pre-amp-sonos-to-beolab-rca-line-in.html

Here are the two connection options for Beolab 4000 mk.2 speakers (2008-2010):-

1) Connect two speakers to the headphone socket of the receiver with this cable: http://soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/70--trs-2x7pd-.html

2) Connect two speakers to the red and black speaker terminals on the back of the receiver using this special Attenuated Converter: http://soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/33--attenuator-.html and then use this cable to connect the speakers to the output sockets of the Converter: http://soundsheavenly.com/powerlink-8-pin-din-connection/105-av-processor-pre-amp-sonos-to-beolab-using-the-powerlink-din-sockets.html

Option 1 is cheaper, but the cable will be visible at the front of the receiver and this will disable any other speakers connected to the receiver.  Option 2 allows the cables to be hidden and the Beolab speakers can be used along with your other speakers if required.  Please set both speakers to “Line” mode using the small switch near the input sockets.

Sorry for the long post, hopefully that covers everything!  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.
