Hello,

I'm new to this forum and need some advice please. We have 3x Beocom 6000's, all Mk1. All 3 worked fine but recently, 2 of them lost their dialling tone and won't communicate with the base. I have tried resetting the base, I have deleted and reregistered both handsets (and the base) and I have checked there are only 3 handsets in total registered to the base. Interestingly, if I pop the handset onto the base and then press the call button, I CAN hear a dialling tone so we know it's not a line issue and seems to be an issue of communication between the base and the handsets. For example, I can't name or register the handsets unless they're sitting on the base.

I have read somewhere that it might be a board issue but does anyone have any other ideas? If not, do I need to send the handsets off to have their boards replaced and does anyone know if this is a) doable and b) expensive?

I hope you can help and I thank you in advance.

I have the same setup (plus a Beocom 2) and one by one they all lost contact with the Base until only one was connected. Leaving three not working. I de- registered the three handsets then couldn't get the handsets to register and got error messages. Despite not wanting to lose all the stored numbers in the Base unit I was about to reset the whole system and thought that I'd get new batteries for the 3 Beocom 6000s as part of the reset because the phones were older than the Beocom 2 and batteries don't last forever.

I put the new batteries in and the whole lot worked as if nothing had changed. I didn't need to reset anything or even re-register them. They seemed to have saved all the settings.

Thanks Stoobie. This makes sense as one of the handsets doesn't seem to hold its charge for very long and I wonder if its simply a case of not enough juice to make contact with the base which might explain why they do work when they're on the base itself. I'll give this a go with one of them to test it out.

Thanks again for such a prompt and helpful reply.

I bought 3 of these in July 2016.  https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002MPYM3W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hi,

I am also new to this forum. I have found that when the phones start loosing the connection with the PSTN that it's the RF part of the board which is starting to fail. For most of us this means replacing the PCB. The cost will depend on if go to a dealer or an independent B&O service agent. The dealers are normally dearer as they have greater overheads.

imhope that helps.

Hi gadams and thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I'm just waiting for some new batteries as recommended by Stoobie (they're coming from China) and will report back with the result. I'm hoping they're going to fix the problem but if not, I think it will be the board. Interestingly, the 2 units that have stopped working are the "originals" I bought years ago and the working unit is a lot newer so I'm hoping it is battery fatigue!

I'll let you know how I get on.

All the best

This is true, There are two main reasons why a Mark 1 Beocom 6000 gives no signal error or loss of communication. One is the battery and the second is the failure of the RF chip. There are no replacement PCB's for Mark 1's and therefore cannot be purchased from a B&O dealer. There were conversion kits available to take a Mark 1 to Mark 2 and you can see what is in the kit HERE but they may no longer be available as well.

Stoobie,

You're an absolute genius!

Two replacement batteries arrived from Amazon today for the grand sum of £13.66.

I popped them into the 2 Beocom 6000 phones and the connection was restored to both immediately without having to resort to the expense or inconvenience of sending them off for repair or a new board and as you said, without having to reset or re-register.

This has made my day and I'm very grateful to you.

Keith/gadams - please note the above - I hope this helps you out too.

Regards,
