In an old thread, http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/4286/45606.aspx#45606 I posed the question of how someone attracted to the minimalist aesthetic and philosophy could justify 5 or 6 discrete Beosystems plus the odd additional piece or two I’ve decided that I can’t, so I am starting the ‘process of reduction’ by selling what is arguably B&O’s finest passive system, the Beolab 8000.
I bought the system some 6 years ago from Peter, the well-respected Beoworld moderator. The system comprises a Beomaster 8000, a Beogram 8002, currently fitted with an MMC4 and a Beocord 9000 along with the correct system remote control. The system is finished in Rosewood.
The 8000 is in very good cosmetic condition with unmarked aluminium and glass panels. All the displays work perfectly, with the full complement of segments showing under all operating conditions. The damped lid to the controls is working perfectly. The Rosewood veneer is complete although there is a slight lifting to the front panel. A problem with the heatsinks running very hot was fixed by Tim Jarman 3 years ago and the 8000 has been working faultlessly ever since. The fully working Beolab terminal remote control is in very good condition. There is, however, one thing that will need to be sorted. The 8 pin phono socket on the Beomaster has recently come loose and although the internal wiring is still connected, the socket is now loose in its housing. This is a well-known age related problem with this model. I have recently purchased a 3D-printed retaining clip to overcome this but have not installed it. The 8002 is in excellent condition. The aluminium top plate and lid are unmarked as are both the arms. All the black plastic trim is unmarked, including the sloping section containing the push button controls. The platter has some very slight marks. The Rosewood trim is almost perfect with no signs of drying out or lifting as it has been regularly treated with Danish oil. There is a tiny piece of veneer about 1mm square missing on the front panel but this is only noticeable if you are looking for it.
The hinged cover works properly, and although there are the inevitable polish marks on the lid itself, there are no obvious scratches or deep marks. The usual problems with the plastic elements of the cover to the spring mechanism for the lid are notable by their absence as the adhesive was replaced by Peter. The turntable is working well with all the automatic lift/lower facilities fully operational and the motor and drive system still delivering absolute speed accuracy. The display is working properly, displaying all the segments at 33 and 45rpm. It is the 8002 shown in my avatar.
The MMC4 cartridge has had a new cantilever and stylus fitted by Axel Schurholz - see http://www.schallplattennadeln.de/B-O-MMC-Reparatur-Repair/MMC-Repair-English/ - and has only had some 80 hours use since.
The 9000 is cosmetically in very good overall condition with unmarked aluminium panels. The glass panel has one very slight mark that is only visible in certain lights. All the displays work perfectly, with the full complement of segments showing under all operating conditions. The damped lid to the controls is working perfectly. The Rosewood veneer is starting to lift and has a small piece missing. The deck is fully working with play, record and fast forward/reverse all functioning well. Included is the original Beocord 9000 owner’s pack that comes with a frequency response graph for the actual deck along with the extremely rare calibration tape produced for B&O by Maxell.
I have the operating manuals for the 9000, 8000 and, for some reason, the Beogram 8000. Also included is the very useful CD/Tape adaptor type 5006. The CD-TAPE adaptor is specially designed to fit the Beogram CD X, the ideal CD player for the 8000 series.

Given the weight and size of the system, I would not want to entrust it to the rigours of transport in the back of some truck - there are too many cases of damage in transit. Local pick up only, please, or I could arrange personal delivery to anywhere within, say, 250 miles of Exeter, Devon for a contribution to the cost of my fuel - I have recently retired so I am relatively ‘time rich’!
