I have a pair of Beolab 4000s I purchased approximately 15 years ago. One has stopped working.

When switching on, the light turns green, but nothing but some occasional static comes out of it. When turning the system off, the speaker will turn off, but then continue to to turn on and off at random intervals. The other speaker works normally. Speakers are connected to an active kit. Speaker that still works is connected to the active and then the faulty speaker is daisy chained to the first speaker. I have tried the second power link connection on the faulty speaker and checked for a loose connection on the other speaker.

Any thoughts?  Does this sound repairable if I take to a B and O service center?

Thanks!

Is your BL4000 a mk1 or 2 version?(The mk2 version doesn't have a power switch)

If mk1 type,it's probably the case that the(black) sound dampening foam inside the cabinet has decomposed, and the residue is contaminating the pcb's.

It can be removed and cleaned away, but sometimes the residue can actually eat away the copper tracks of the pcb!

It's well worth having a look inside if you are confident with electronics, but otherwise a Service Agent will be familiar with the problem, and could do the work for you. However, they will tend to replace damaged pcbs in order to be able to gaurantee the repair,so it could be expensive!

The mk 2 version wasn't susceptible to this problem as different foam was employed,so if you have mk 2 type,it will almost certainly entail module replacement!

Thanks! It is a MK1 but has the white foam. I checked it a few months ago when there was a discussion going on here about problems with the black foam.

Problem solved. Not sure how it happened, maybe accidentally when moving speaker, cleaning. Switch had been moved to line in.
