I tried the manual without luck.If i buy a NL/ML converter and connect a Beomaster. Can i then stream to NL/ML playing on the Beolabs connected to the Beomaster? If i wanted it to work without the Beomaster i would need a linkeye and then connect the Beolabs directly to the NL/ML?
No, the X-App does not support the BLC it is annouced for future releases.
Yes you can connect the beolabs via Powerlink to the BLC and yes you will need an ir eye.
Damn.So i would have to use say a Chromecast Audio connected to the AUX on the BLC and then multiroom-connect the linkroom speakers if i want music in the whole house including the speakers connected to the BLC.
How do i connect to NL sources on old ML products? Lets say an A9 is playing Deezer and i have a Beolink Active connected to the BLC via Masterlink?
It depends on what you currently have in your ML network. Remember, the BLC has to play in ML according to ML rules that were written long ago. The BLC can mimic an a.master, a v.master, an av.master or a BS5. Supposing you only have a BeoVision and link rooms in your ML, you can configure the Deezer from the A9 as "Radio" on the ML side of the world. Press "Radio" on your remote in the link room, and this will tell the BLC to send the Deezer audio to ML as a "radio" audio source. The BeoActive thinks it is getting "radio" from a BeoSound, when it is actually getting Deezer from the A9 via the BLC - assuming there are no licensing restrictions the prohibit Deezer from being broadcast multi-room - Spotify does not allow this. Spotify audio can only be shared with other devices that support Spotify, and means no ML devices. If you had speakers connected to the BLC, you could also listen to this from the BLC (again, assuming no licensing restrictions).
If you connect a Chromecast audio to the BLC AUX port, there will be a delay when distributing this audio the NL because it must be converted from analog to digital. I think you can, however, set the AUX port to play only locally with no delay (although I could have this confused with the Essence), and use Chromecast to provide the "whole house" effect - that is, you can put your BLC chromecast and A9 in a "group" and send your audio to the "group" and there will be no delay because NL is not being used.

The only Masterlink product i have is a 1611 connected to a Beomaster 7000.
The rest is NL link room speakers.
I aquired the BLC to distribute Beogram sound through my Beosystem 7000 to the NL link speakers.
I wonder if i should connect the Beolabs, now connected to the Beosystem, to the BLC instead.
If i understand correctly that would work with BLC as videomaster and the 1611 as audiomaster in collaboration with the Beosystem 7000.
Watch out for the update (yesterday) of the X app.
Streaming to devices on the converter is now supported.

steve1977:i believe that's the old work-around, which used to work with the beomusic app. let me recap whether i understand you correctly. you basically play deezer on the essence. then you "join" with the ml/nl, which plays the music through your bv8. so, you cannot play "only" to your bv8?

This is not a X-app thing but a NL/ML setup thing.
Set the primary and secondly devices in the NL/ML converter correct and program the experience to ML and the remote commands correctly. Than this should be possible.
the goal is to have the NL-source available in the ML chain
steve1977:this should be possible technically, but is not working. see my error message about "cannot queue" posted.
steve1977:it feels you found a way to get it working.deezer and dlna are NL sources and the "player" is in the a9, a6 or beosound 1. i want to play the source (e.g., deezer) to my bv through ml/nl, but not on any other device. i.e., deezer from the a9 plays on my bv (ml/nl), but not on my a9. this should be possible technically, but is not working. see my error message about "cannot queue" posted.
Could/can you start Deezer with your remote in the ML chain (for example the BV8)? If so than the X-app can do the same.

elephant:Depends how the BLC tables are setup. For example I have net.radio set to TuneIn. BeoNut since '75

I tried it with tunein and this works well. I can select "radio" on my beo4 and can play tunein on my BV. This is how I have set it up and it works nicely. The actual "player" is my A9, but the A9 does not turn on, but just plays to the BV (via ML/NL).
This works when selected via the Beo4, which doesn't allow me to select tunein radio channels though.
Unfortunately, this does not work with the X app at all.
Correct. The BLC has no native NL sources rather than its own Line In. It derives its NL sources from the primary and secondary NL devices linked to it. None of these sources are currently accessible via the Bang & Olufsen app. You can only JOIN currently playing sources.
It seems a shame that for the price of the BLC that the firmware cannot be updated to let the BLC have its own native Deezer and TuneIn sources so that it is not dependent on other NL devices. This would seem to solve a lot of problems. The last major BLC update (version 1.4.3 -- not including minor subsequent updates) was December 2015.

Carolpa:even with an own Deezer source it will not work! You still have to use a remote to select the source Only if the converter was/is capable to start a specific ML apparatus then it would work

Do you know whether it "cannot" be updated? Is this a technical limitation or do you mean that it is very unlikely that it will happen as not even the X app is out of beta yet? The ML/NL clearly does not appear to be a priority for B&O, which is a pity for those of us with old ML devices.
Carolpa:Sorry you're right! It will not work. The principle of the app: you want to start a source on a specific device, in your case you want to start Deezer on a BV8, but the app must have a connection with this device, in your case the app must communicate with the BV8, but the app doesn't have a connection with the BV8, so...... impossible!

You mean that it does not work. Obviously, it is technically possible as it was possible with the beomusic app. It is just the new X app, which is not ready yet. I hope that this very basic feature can be added very soon. Happy to join testflight if this helps. In general, I am learning more and more that the X app is just a very unfinished product and feature-wise big step back unless you are using Deezer and only own NL devices.
Carolpa:What happens if you start fe TuneIn with a remote on the BV8. Can you select the converter in the X-app and change radio channels?
No

and that became the Essence but thanwithout the ML features

if so could you shed some light on the settings of your BLC?

I"m wondering the same thing. It would seem to me that it's just a matter of adding the software. It seems unreasonable to without that feature just because that would make the BLC too similar to the Essence. My dealer has advised that the Essence is soon to be discontinued and replaced with the the Core.

Isn't the Digital Power Link for the BeoLab 90?

Yes, I can play TuneIn to the BV with the Beomusic app. Just to clarify, it is a BV7, but this should make no difference. Also to clarify, the Beomusic app does not allow me either to change channels. The only thing it allows me to is to start playing TuneIn or Deezer.
You described in your earlier page how my ML/NL is set up. It maps Deezer/TuneIn to the ML/NL as NL sources from my A9. These can be selected by the Beo4 or via the Beomusic app. Basically same functionality. Also great that the starting TuneIn on the BV (via ML/NL) does not activate the A9.
I was hoping that the X app would keep this functionality and a choice to change channels and also add DLNA support. However, the opposite is true. The feature to play Deezer/TuneIn has disappeared and gives me an ugly error message when attempting to do so.
You can tell that this is very disappointing and a real step back. But then, need to keep in mind that this is beta and hopefully this app has meaningful functionality once it is formally released.

What audio master do you have in your setup? Since I have a BeoSound 5, my only option was to set the BLC as video master. My BeoSound 5 does not have speakers connected to it. Therefore, the BLC in the X app for me is only relevant for controlling the BLC with its connected speakers -- which the X app cannot even do properly.
Yes, my ML/NL is set as A.Master. As said, worked reasonably well with the Beomusic app (main missing feature was to select channels in TuneIn or select songs over DLNA). Now with the X app, this feature is dead.

It's annoying that B&O didn't go the extra step to make the BeoSound 5 a full NL device instead of a "semi-NL" device.
Quite interesting: do you have only the BV7 on ML? Or are the more ML devices in the chain?
Hypothetical: a ML chain with a BV7 and a BL3500 connected to a A9 and a BLC. Now one wants so start TuneIn on the BV7. You hit the correct button on the remote in the room with the BV7 (BLC set-up correctly). The command for the source reaches the BLC and TuneIn on the A9 starts.
Now I want to use the Beomusic app or the X-app. I am in the same room and want to start the BV7 with TuneIn as source. The BV7 is not connected to the network! So I cannot connect to the BV7 using the apps, correct? I could address the BLC............but now the intriguing part...... how does the BLC know it has to start the BV7 and not the BL3500?
I want to learn, learn, learn.........so maybe I missed a setting in the BLC, or maybe......... please explain?
Yes I could fix it partly by changing the BLC settings to tweaked settings. But still NL does not know on the ML side which device to start.
But maybe I missed something completely?

It would be nice to see collaboration between the X app team and the BeoLink 2 app team. Each app has nice features lacking in the other. From the BLGW, we can see that ML devices each have a unique address as a "node" on the network. It would be nice to see if those addresses could be used in the X app (even without a BLGW) to activate ANY ML product to play NL sources via the BLC -- not just audio master or video master. Of course, though, the ML devices do not have a JOIN function -- so managing the control over them in the X app might be a bit different.

Make your settings similar to the above; especial the "product controlled by Apps" setting. This is not how it should be, but you have access to the sources of the A9.

I have been away for several days and nights during which this thread seems to have doubled in size !
So just a little experiment I conducted this afternoon, before I saw all these posts, was
1. Using the X app (in beta mode)
2. Nothing started
3. Select the BLC NL/ML
4. Select from its device menu MUSIC
5 This started playing from the Essence in the other room my last Essence Deezer playlist item (ColdPlay ... how apt) but NOT to the Essence's speakers
6. My ML destinations activated and playing to their speakers (as MUSIC is defined on that side of the BLC as Net.Music (and as my MacMini was not beolink/beoport active) with the source being the BLC and ColdPlay being the music
7. The setup unfortunately activated ALL my NL: BV8 and BS4
8. I deactivated the BV8 (red dot standby button)
9. I left the BeoSound 4 playing until
A. The ColdPlay playlist came to an end and everything went quiet
