Hello everyone, I'm in Scotland and have a Beosound Century, the CD flap comes up and down but when I put a disc in to play the flap comes up again, could someone give me a reason why this is happening? If possible, I am not a DIY repair person, so any advice given on what to do or where to go will be greatly appreciated.
It can be because the laser cannot read the disc. This can be due to a dirty lens if you are very lucky (clean it!) or a failed component in the tracking circuitry. If the latter, it is fixable but you will need to find some one capable. B&O no longer seem able to fix this type of problem. The full service manual is on site for silver and gold members. The only point I would raise is that these are now quite cheap devices. I note there are two on eBay with exactly the same issue!!

Hi Tom
I'm no expert but sounds like the laser might have gone. Have your tried cleaning the laser lens?
The Century is a fantastic sounding bit of kit. I use one of mine hooked up to a Google Audio Chromecast to play Spotify from my phone. Works a treat - so all is not lost if the CD has died!
Cheers

Hi Tom,
About 20 years ago my B&O CD3300 wouldn't play CD's; as a last ditch fix I put 2 CDs 'face-to-face' onto the player to see what happens - voila, the CD-Player played on for a further decade...
Last month my Beosound 3000 CD-player started acting up similarly and wouldn't play CDs; I tried the old '2 CD' trick, and again it has been playing everything I put in it since.
I have no idea why this works (it helps centre the laser? the weight of two discs plays some part?...), but it has significantly extended the life of two CD systems for me.
Perhaps it may be worth trying - please share if it works as I'm curious to know if I've just been lucky!
Hope this helps a fellow Scot.
