The mainboard off my BM5 crashed some time ago. Getting it fixed will cost me about 600euro's

Luckily i didn't let the dealer repair my BM5, because second hand prices are about the same nowadays.

Only thing is that i miss my music.

Now i was wondering, because there are many people having experience with this, is there somebody who now's what exactly what has crashed on the mainboard??
I mean, tested the print, and solders new elements on it, to get it fixed?

Must be someone who has tried this...

Greetz!

You can't repair check the mainboard of the Beomaster 5 by hand! It's a Via computer mainboard and those can only serviced by machines/robots.

There's a second B&O circuit board inside. You need a B&O service tool to some serial numbers into a Bios that are required to make the system work.

Yes, minor service can be done, it depends on what failure the mainborad shows.

Power supply could be replaced. Capacitors for CPU voltage may be faulty and could be replaced.

Memory (CPU if it is not soldered) could be replaced.

CMOS battery may prevend the board from starting.

Does the Board anything eg. beeping? Fan and harddisc working, LED?

Have to try.

After starting only a black screen appears on the BS. Now already not running for long period and system stored upstairs.

quick startup of the BM gives following findings;

fan running

Hdd running

led on top print burning red

led on back burning green now. (beleave this was red when system failed, that means I have to install screen to check)

to to be continued.....

One more question;

i found a small battery CR2033 on the main board. For what use is this battery installed? Could a dead battery like this enables to startup the system?

@Ralf: How do you service such a Mainboard by yourself? It's a VIA EPIA EX series board:

Do you have a testing tool for servicing a computer mainboard? Do you really solder on such circuit boards yourself?

The CR2032-Battery keeps the Bios-Settings saved (Settings, Date, Time etc.) and can sometimes affect booting of the system. Normally it shouldn't but it's worth a try.

you need a tool for programming the Bios, otherwise there seem to be no updates:

Yes we have some  sophisticated test equipment in our office and a reflow oven and much more :-)

There are some user serviceable actions, give them a try:

A dead CR2023 may prevend the Mainboard from starting. Set the Jumper 'CMOS clear'  for some seconds, should be near CMOS battery.

If you dont hear any postcodes, may be the processor is dead or the powersupply is not working correct.

Please measure all voltages 12V, 5V , positive and negative. Check connections, remount RAM, disconnect  HDD (SATA and Power)

The capacitors neart he CPU sometimes are blown, you should see this. In this case no stable 2.7V or 3.3V possible.

This are often faults on mainboards, although VIA uses quality parts.

Ah, that's the secret... Smile

But the postcodes might not work because - as far as I remember - there's no internal speaker connected to the Beomaster 5 motherboard:
