Hi All,

I'm fairly new to all of this and I have some questions...

My girlfriend recently bought a Beocenter 9500 for my birthday - I know, she is amazing. I already owned some RL7000 (need to be refurbished) and currently used RL140 on my previous stereo.

Her come some idiotic "noob" questions, I assume:

How do I connect these speakers? I have the standard black/red cable. Where do they go?

1. Do I use the powerlink inputs? Which plugs do I use? RCA to DIN? Can I use the 7DIN or the 5Din...

2. Can I use the standard cable and plus them into the speaker1 or 2? If I try this no sound is coming out. How do I connect them or what am I doing wrong? I feel a bit silly asking this, because it should be not that complicated... Or.. is something broken?

If I use the headphone jack, I do get sound. That was a relief.

Same question regarding phono input and aux/ipad input:

1. Which DIN do I purchase?

I have been looking online for some basic explanation/tutorials/videos but nothing to find.

Hope someone can ease my troubles!

nice birthday present - do you know, what she is planning for christmas...?

RL speakers are passive Beovox speakers - connect them to SPEAKER 1 outputs (2 pin socket) with standard cable.

SPEAKER 2 output is also for passive speakers, but for link speakers in additional rooms - you have to use MCL linksystems.

Powerlink outputs are for active speakers, Beolabs like BL600, 8000, 400, 4500....(with integrated poweramps).

Maybe the MUTE relay doesn`t work properly. What happens, when you press the MUTE button on the BC9500 panel?

-------

To connect external sources I`d get a 5pin DIN to 4x rca adapter cable. That way you can use inputs and outputs on AUX- and A.TAPE 2 sockets.

There is a RIAA amp on the PHONO socket, so you can`t use that one for line signals, only for Beograms without RIAA like 3000, 3300, 9500 (of course) , 5500.... (and non Beo turntables without RIAA).

Hope this helps

If you are really getting no output from either Speaker 1 or 2 outputs, you have a problem. However it might be a simple one! On the connection panel there should be a socket marked line in/out - it is just above the Power Link 1 socket. There should be a white plastic plug in this. If not there, this is your problem as it connects the pre-amp to the power amp. The plug is designed so you can connect a graphic equaliser or headphone amplifier when it is removed - both pointless really! If that is missing, let us know!

I should also have said that the 9500 is in my opinion the best designed unit that B&O ever made - fantastic in both design and performance - I have had a couple and regret not having one now - a superb present - you have a wonderful girlfriend!

This is the exact problem I have. Having just brought my Beocenter 9500 out of storage after 6 years, all works fine electronically, but no sound. Reading this post it all came back to me, and the little white plastic plug is missing!

I tried my local B&O centre (Manchester, UK) - no use 'I can't order those anymore I'm afraid'.

Any ideas where I could get one, or could I just use a DIN socket head? What is it actually doing?

Many thanks

Stuart

The idea behind this was to allow connection of a graphic equaliser or such like. The system is replicated in the Beomaster 5500 etc but they use U shaped links between RCA sockets. In this case, the same effect can be achieved by a DIN plug with shorted connections - I attach the circuit diagram.

Hi Peter

Thanks for your quick reply.

Beyond purchasing a DIN plug head for a couple of pounds, what do I need to do? What do you mean by 'shorted connections' (in layman terms)?

I just removed the jumper plug from my BC9500 and took a (blurry) photo:

You need a DIN plug with just pins 1, 3, 4 and 5 present.  Then simply solder 'jumpers' between pins 1 and 3, and 4 and 5 respectively to end up with the connections as shown above.

(Note that the DIN pins are not numbered sequentially - google it if you need further details, but the above should make sense!)
