I have this "code" error. Following advice on this forum ( http://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/41450/343890.aspx), I opened unit to try to replace the battery. I cannot however locate where the battery is. I looked in the silver box with the label on it, but don't see it. Is it perhaps under the box?

Interestingly enough, without repairing the battery I did the 1271 code reset and the unit operated fine. However when I disconnected the main power, the "code" error returned. So it seems the 1271 reset process is temporary maybe indicating that the battery is indeed faulty and needs replacing. Can anyone please point me in the right direction as to finding this battery to replace.  Many thanks!

On the same board as the silver box but on a bit of board that sticks out on the end, under some cables that go to the IR receiver. When looking from the rear of the unit it is at the left hand end of the board.

It is soldered in so you will need a replacement with solder tags.

OK I found it... now... might you be able to advise on exactly how to desolder this puppy.  I see one solder tab on top, but dont see a second?? As you can probably tell I'm not an expert in any way but do own a soldering gun and hoped I could tackle this project myself. Maybe I am biting off more than I should??

You will find that the tags are soldered from the underside of the board so you will need to remove it.

BEWARE, if you are a novice with a soldering iron, too much heat near the battery and it is likely to explode! I would recommend that you entrust the work to an experience electronics technician or hobbyist.

Thanks again for your advice... i was able to easily unscrew the board, pull off a few wire harnesses to get access to the underside of the board and quickly desolder the two pins removing the battery.  Just waiting on the new battery now.  Any yes.... I'll be careful.

Cheers!

Project complete.  Everything works beautifully.  Still amazes me that my Dad paid more than $4,000 for this back in 1986.  Still looks so cool though... love it!  Now I have to sadly return it to him. Sad
