Hi everyone,
I’m considering buying a set of 2nd hand Beolab 20 while saving for the Beolab 50.
Most of these are MK1 but I have only had the chance to audition the MK2 in my local B&O store.
Is there anyone out there that can explain the difference between the MK1 and MK2 versions of Beolab 20?
I especially want to find out if the sound is different....
I would really appreciate some help on this.
I think the only change is the lot logo on the front of the MK2. The MK1 has a glowing ring around the tweeter instead. I find that more subtle and elegant to be honest. The glowing logo is a bit much for me. However, theres also an issue with BeoLab 20 that can make it output a very loud noise. As far as I know B&O has not aknowledged this issue but many Beoworld users with Beolab 20 has experienced this and had boards swapped. I don't think there is any way to know if your unit might be affected and I don't think this is something that is different in MK1 and MK2.
Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2, BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century, BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i, BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40, BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)
Thank you very much for a quick response 😊
Have you thought about a pair of Beolab 5's whilst your saving for a pair of Beolab 50's??
The lab5's are better speakers than lab20's. and for just abit more cash pre-owned.

Hi,
Yes, I have considered the Beolab 5 which I think is a fantastic speaker. The problem is that my wife says no. She thinks the Beolab 5 is ugly, and it will never be allowed in our living room...
Thanks!
Hi Alibumba,
I had a similar disagreement with my wife when I suggested buying my Penta speakers. This was easily resolved by borrowing a pair of red Beolab 1s (which had faded to pink due to having spent years in direct sunlight) from a friend and installing them without warning one day when she went out......
She was horrified when she saw them, so I kindly offered to remove them and replace them with "something smaller and more subtle that would fit in better with the decor" she still wasn't completely happy with the Pentas when they arrived, but she knew how much worse the alternative could be.....
Kind regards, Steve.
Steve.

Must be the most common problem of those speakers !
I had the very same issue with my wife, she hates the look of the beolab 5's. but luckily they are not for the living room but to go in my music room.
When she was in the local Bang Olufsen shop she said she really wasn't keen on them, but now they are in my music room she said "they look not too bad now" the aluminium discs go with the metal on my Beocenter 9300, even better if you had a Beocenter 2.
From a personal point of view i think it's bad anyone should stop anyone else having what they want, (married or not) as long as the mortgage & bills are paid, life's too short.
If i get resistance from the wife, i tend to prefer a blazing arguement, then a very small amount of compromise and then getting my own way. Another method is to just turn up with them.
Good luck.

i was given a similar opportunity and I asked the same question
Geoff Martin assured me there was no sonic difference just cosmetic
i have had the noise issue (search for the Armageddon thread!!) but I have not bothered with a board exchange
From memory I believe both Mark I and II owners have reported that issue
