Considering to purchase a Essence mkii, but have noticed that there also is the Beosound Core.
Can anybody list the main differences? I looke on the internet but not sure i found all details
One of the primary advantages of the Core is that it has an optical out (and input). The Essence on the other hand can be connected to an IR receiver making Beo4 control possible. Furthermore, the internals of the core are a bit more up-to-date so it can handle more codecs / formats I believe.
I believe the Core also has the Chromecast built in. I have an Essence Mark 1 and just connected a £30 Chromecast to the line in and working a treat! If I buy another £30 Chromecast I can now have multi room!
Beosound 8, Beotime, Beocom 4, Beo 5, Lutron Rania, MacBook 15" (Mid 2015), iPad Pro, iPhone 6S, B&O Play H3, Beolit 12, Form 2, A8 Headphones, B&O Play A1, B&O Essence
How did you do this? I tried to connect the Chromecast audio dongle even with RCA cables and could not get it to work. I also have an essence Mark one. I’d be very curious to know.

Hi Irvine,
You connect the Chromecast to the RCA ports on the Essence MK1 and you need to go to the B&O app and select Line In. I had a little hassle with this to begin with but it has been running faultlessly and more reliable than airplay. Any further problems let me know and i'll see if I can help.
